TL;DR:
- Flávio Bolsonaro: 47.03% (56.1 million votes)
- Lula: 45.16% (53.9 million votes)
The result was much better for the far right than I expected. It’s now very difficult to see Bolsonaro losing the second round.
My feeling that we were heading for a repeat of 2018 was right. At least this time, it won’t come as a surprise.
Prepare for an Americas increasingly dominated by the right and far right.
Europe may soon find itself as one of the last major strongholds of liberal democracy, until the far right takes power in France and/or Germany, which increasingly seems to be the direction we’re heading.
Have you ever met someone from the Fediverse in person to do something together? I don't mean at a Fediverse-related event. If you have, I'd be curious to hear what kind of activity brought you together. I've seen people from other social media platforms organize offline activities and meetups, Fa
The far-right is creating lots of fake AI generated avatars supporting their political leadership on Social Media.
In the US, pro-Trump
In Brazil, there are videos pro-Bolsonaro (not the father in jail, but one of his sons).

It's amazing how skilled the far right is at using state-of-the-art Big Tech tools to spread disinformation. But that's no coincidence.
Are you seeing similar examples in your country?

Unfortunately for some, I will be posting more often about ADHD. I will openly discuss the subject and share what I have learned.
Recently, at a party, I had a conversation with a mother whose daughter has ADHD. Initially, she was thought to be unintelligent until she was diagnosed and several measures were taken, such as attending a school with fewer students and taking medication.
During the conversation, this mother made an intriguing comment: She said that she had asked her daughter not to take the medicine. This prompted my question: "May I ask why, since it was prescribed by a professional?"
Her answer: "I've heard it can cause Alzheimer's." When I asked her where she heard that, she said it was from someone she follows on Instagram.
Another person in the conversation emphasized the importance of using reliable sources and peer-reviewed research. I'm not sure if my endorsed comment will have an impact. Hopefully, it will.
I'm not surprised by how people form their opinions on scientific topics, but I'm scared by how easy it is today to spread misinformation and disinformation on important topics.

When will we start referring to the Trump administration as the "Trump regime" or "American regime" in the same way that we refer to other autocratic regimes?
Is there still hope for a regime change, or at least political guardrails, in the US in November?

Informative Wikipedia article on Trump and Fascim https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_and_fascism
Of the references used, I recommend Anatomy of Fascism by Robert Paxton. It was the first book I read on the topic, motivated by the misleading use of the term "fascism" in political discussions and the election of a far-right president in Brazil. It was a very shocking election for me at that time.
Another good book is On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, by Timothy Snyder. By living for more than nine years in the country where fascism caused the greatest harm in history, I found this to be a really good book. I discovered this one after reading some of the author's thoughts.
More recently, I read How Democracies Die, by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt. I found this book while researching a prize for my Leave X campaign. The book focuses on the decline of American democracy but gives several examples from around the world. It is informative in helping to understand the global far-right movement.
I've just ordered this book by @arnesemsrott@chaos.social on a local bookstore via https://www.genialokal.de
In his words (with DeepL) "My new book, *Counterpower: Civil Society Strikes Back*, is coming out on June 1!
It offers many concrete answers to the question: How do we shift from the defensive to the offensive?
With many examples: it covers, among other things, strategic legal battles, care work based on solidarity, creating our own spaces, strikes and organizing, civil society crisis aid, fair governance, referendums, enthusiasm, and humor.
If you’re interested, please order it now. That really helps the book. Maybe even give it as a gift?
Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to democracy initiatives."

Funding for Anti-Extremism Project Cut Off
The founder of an anti-extremism project criticized statements made by the chancellor, prompting the Interior Ministry to cut off funding—despite protests from the Federal Agency for Civic Education. This is confirmed by documents obtained by Report Mainz.
