One of the main reasons people are seeking alternatives to Big Tech social media is the threat these platforms pose to democracy, particularly through algorithms that amplify polarization and hate speech. If we can't convince democratic institutions and influential public figures to join the #Fediverse, its potential to make political communication less dependent on Big Tech infrastructure will remain very limited. I don't blame the many journalists and civil society organizations that have chosen #Bluesky instead. They are important allies in defending democracy.
