Hello Fediverse! Here is my #Introduction:
Setting up an account and finding my footing. By nature, I am a quiet observer and prefer reading, learning, and following thoughtful feeds over posting.
Topics I enjoy following:
• #Electronics & electrical tinkering
• #Homelab & #SelfHosted infrastructure
• #Music, guitar & composing #TTRPG scores
• Hands-on building & maker craft
Happy to read and learn from the community. Feed recommendations are welcome!
Just added direct file level restore INTO the guest VM object in #PegaProx for #Proxmox VE based systems.
Directly restore files from backup to VMs in #Proxmox with #PegaProx!
No more awkward workflow where you first have to download the file to your local machine and then upload it back into the VM.
Requirements:
The initial implementation has a few requirements and limitations:
Backups must be stored on a Proxmox Backup Server. Local backups are currently not supported. The VM must have the QEMU Guest Agent installed and enabled. The VM must be running while the restore operation is performed. This feature probably takes place in version 1.4.0 which might make it right to the #Proxday. You can also meet Nico and me there!

Woo! New #Immich release with upgraded face-recognition sharing getting very good reviews and feedback.
If you've been looking to get your photos off "the cloud" and onto a private, open source service that you host yourself, then now is a really good time. Face sharing has been a bit of a roadblock for a lot of people (especially families), but not any more!

So now I need to move my #homelab. And I have two options:
- Migrate #Mastodon reverse proxy from #nginx to #caddy (no documentation on this around the internet except uncertain assumptions).
- Pay x4 for the internet for a business plan, where I’ll be able to rent more than one static IP.
So the question is do you, dear #mastoadmin, have a working example of Caddy config for Mastodon?
Been hearing some sketchy things about the ethics going on at #protonmail and after I just finished my gmail transition. For those in a #foss #opensource world, what are you using for email and cloud?

Hello, Fediverse. I'm Ivo, a mechanical engineer in Croatia. I don't write code: I lead AI coding agents (Claude Code), check what they make and run it in my own house. Three projects came out of that, all self-hosted and source-available, free for personal use:
OPUS: music, films, series and family photos
BABA: an NVR for the house cameras
DIDA: the smart home

I'm now running navidrome¹ to stream my music collection and it's pretty great.
I'm also very grateful that Picard² exists to fill in the metadata on CDs I ripped 20+ years ago.
No gratitude to all the AI bots scraping musicbrainz/listenbrainz constantly and ruining things, especially when they could just bulk-download the data legitimately³.

Hi fedi!
This is the official account for the HomeLabParty forum. It is meant for discussing whatever you like related to technology but wants to focus on the HomeLab world of tech. We want to be optimistic, using little hardware and old hardware efficiently and want to reject Big Tech as far as possible.
You can sign up for free and discuss topics of your choosing at https://forum.homelabparty.de/ only the data you provide to use will be collected, we do not share it with anyone else and you can request a deletion of it through the forum interface directly.

Built a primitive TOTP generator with Python and an Arduino Uno. It generates a code given the current time and a seed value, and displays said code on an LCD screen on the Arduino. It's been confirmed to work with a basic CLI-based login script, but I wonder how I can expand it to be more useful, because at this stage, it's little more than an extended display.
The code and circuit diagram are available here:

I’ve almost got Home Assistant rigged up for me to yell “Red Alert!” and have it change all my hue bulbs in my office and the hallway outside as well as all of my rgb fans in the server rack to dark red.
I still have to come up with a way to have it sound the red alert klaxon from TNG but I’m working on it lol.

I love getting #TheOnion in print, but this time they’ve gone too far. I don’t know how they broke into my basement but I did not give them permission to use photos of my stuff in their mock ads.

This is the back of my 10" Mini server rack -- Custom made 3D printed power modules for each server
I’ve seen so many 10” servers that look amazing from the front and very polished, but then having a rats nest of cables and a mess at the back.
After 62 iterations and many 3D prints, blood, sweat, profanity and tears. I my design and implementation is finally done.
I used Hexagons where possible, because as you know, Hexagons are the bestagons
This is Before:
And the After:
The ducky adds 200MHz
The front of my mini-rack is actually still somewhat of a mess, I thought I’d focus on the back first.
I’ve published it in excruciating detail on my GitHub
Leave a Star if you like what you see.
I self host a bunch of stuff on here to get away from Big-Tech, and because I find it fun.
For a lot more details see https://erasmus.works
It always bothered me the the fronts of racs are modular, but not the backs, this solves that
If you have any questions feel free to ask, hopefully this helps other clear up their rats nests.
pfSense leading the way with absolutely useless upgrade notes:
"Certain hardware with a specific firmware problem, including some Celeron J devices, may encounter a kernel panic when attempting to boot pfSense CE software version 2.9.0."
So "certain hardware" might.. not boot at all? And there is no list/table with which hardware has this problem?
There's only one thing for this, get the trebuchet ready
