It's still coded using AI, same as what Debian just decided to do.

“The number of vulnerabilities we've disclosed is a subset of the total number of vulnerabilities that Mythos Preview (and other Claude models) has found, since the process of independent human triage and review is the rate limiting step.” —Anthropic
No, Anthropic, the rate-limiting step is that 99% of everything coming out of your damn bots is nonsense, and extracting any shred of useful information from their output is the mother of all needle-in-a-haystack problems.

Well, I suppose this is all moot anyway. With KDE now planning to start spying on users to train AI models https://windowsforum.com/news/kde-plasma-kadai-is-a-proposal-not-an-ai-desktop.444963/ it seems we all need to abandon ship regardless.
What will we use next?

It's pretty clear at this point that the politicians are just straight-up trying to destroy society. Including the children.
Shutting down third spaces, shutting down every Internet site except Facebook, making it illegal for kids to be outside, forcing adults to work 40 hours a day… If you were trying to destroy society (and profit handsomely in the process), would you do anything differently?

Two fascinating things about #LooneyTunes #MerrieMelodies that didn't really occur to me as a kid:
-
There is exactly one voice actor: Mel Blanc. Every single character on the entire show is VA'd by that one guy. 😳
-
As the name of the show implies, the music is tightly synchronized to the action. Everything every character does—footsteps, eye blinks, everything—is accompanied by some musical notes (unless it's accompanied by a sound effect).

Plot twist: a German mad scientist has secretly slipped his super-digestion serum into standard immunization shots. The entire country is fully immune to salmonella and a wide variety of other foodborne pathogens (and can also shoot lasers from their nostrils, but nobody has figured this out yet).

Does one still need to avoid Broadcom like the plague?

A silver lining to the dark cloud of #ageVerification:
“I worry that this bill risks isolating teens in unsupportive households by giving their parents control of their online access and exposing teens in bad home situations to harm if their private conversations are revealed to their parents.” —Rep Frank Pallone (D-NJ)
👏 F***ing thank you. Social media bans and in-home video surveillance don't protect kids. They put kids in physical danger.

I read your new age verification proposal. https://www.euractiv.com/content/uploads/sites/2/2026/09/EURACTIV-KIDSACT.pdf
The only thing you're standing up for right now is Facebook's profit margins! Your proposal makes all healthy nonprofit alternatives illegal!
Explained only by a vague speculation on page 5 that they “*may* … provide harms to minors,” as if that were somehow grounds for shutting them all down.
I can only hope that your courts are more respectful of your citizens' fundamental rights than you are. Shame on you!

Ah, I remember you.
Yeah, I've seen some accounts claiming to be from Gaza and soliciting donations. I had wondered if any of them were scammers. Seems like the perfect opportunity, for the sufficiently unethical.
But how did you lose your follows? If the admins of your original instance were on your side and merely overwhelmed, then I would think they'd have given you the courtesy of a few days to migrate somewhere else.

Not necessarily.
There is a count of *active* accounts (i.e. accounts that someone is actually using), so there's that.
But since nobody on the Fediverse knows who anybody is in real life (except for the few who use their real name), there's no way to know how many accounts are non-unique.
There could, for example, be one person who actively uses accounts on both Mastodon and Piefed.

I don't think there's any question that the words are bigoted.
But I see very little evidence that they belong to svin, nor that svin has any significant influence in the KDE project.
Clarification would be appreciated.

NetBSD's guidelines prohibit AI code on copyright grounds only. Nothing philosophical whatsoever.
If anyone is bailing on Debian over the AI decision, for any reason other than copyright concerns, then NetBSD is not their new home.

Sorry but I'm having a *lot* of difficulty believing your story.
Also, the accountability here comes from the fact that you can migrate to another server at will. I've had *far* less trouble from bad mods here than almost any other platform I've used.

Just tried to reboot my Pixel 6 into #Android 16, and…the #phone is stone-cold dead. Black screen, no response to buttons, power+volume doesn't work.
This is not acceptable!
When a PC operating system gets bricked, you can still boot into BIOS, enable booting from USB, and use a rescue/installer USB stick to repair or reinstall the OS.
Can we please have #phones that are similarly fail-safe? Not this unreliable nonsense? Thanks.

You don't *have* to post your life's happenings here. You can also chat about whatever's on your mind, or look for discussions that you might have something to say about.
Some people here do reveal information about their real-life identity. Others, like me, don't. Like, I have no idea who, where, or even *what* @LRRRonEarth@beige.party really is, but seeing their posts is still fun.
I don't know how it is on Facebook, but on here, there's something for everyone.

I'm using Linux PCs as routers.
I was doing that back in the latter 1990s with dialup. Most folks would just connect their one PC to the Internet over dialup, but I set up a house LAN and used a Linux desktop to keep the dialup connected and do NAT routing.
Had to pester my parents for a second phone line so I could do this. 😂
Thankfully this was the *latter* 1990s, so the dialup ISPs didn't care that I was on 24/7.
Nowadays I'm doing the same thing, except with fiber.

Indeed. The thought of sending money to anyone without needing the approval of some unaccountable bureaucracy is certainly alluring, but the absence of any bureaucracy creates this thorny little problem.
Cash has the same problem, of course, but at least the bad guys have to physically break into your home to steal that.

What you said was a factual assertion, not an opinion. One that is not supported by available evidence.
Nor is it supported even by theory. LLMs work by making predictions based on statistical analysis of what humans have previously done. Therefore they cannot surpass even the average human, let alone the best.
Which is why I say your admiration of LLMs speaks not highly of them, but poorly of you. It proves that you're below average.

I wasn't aware of Sharkey back then, so no, I didn't hear about any of this.
Now that you mention it, their use of Discord is also concerning. We're all on Fedi to get away from corporate monoculture. Especially now that Discord has gone full “papers, please.”
Sigh. This is really sad. I thought they were good people.
What the heck did they need a “professionally designed” website for, anyway? They're a programmer/trans collective, not a fintech startup.

Copyright issues are not the only reason to avoid using AI, and as soon as courts rule those copyright issues out of existence (which you know they will—courts are loath to inconvenience moneyed interests), this policy implies that NetBSD will begin allowing AI-generated code.
Nothing classic about that, and the only thing about that that's predictable is the collapse of the project from being filled with vast volumes of low-quality code.

I grew up in the 1990s, surrounded by frustratingly unobservant and tech-illiterate adults.
Kids are clever little SOBs. They prove it every time they bully someone and get away with it scot-free. Which they do constantly.
Adults gleefully outsource their whole entire thought processes to TV/Facebook/AI/etc while kids rightly call you dumb if you don't use your head.
So yes, of course kids reject the latest advertising. Kids were never the impressionable ones. And I'm still frustrated.

Your being easily impressed does not mean that human programmers are obsolete.
Anyway, Greg K-H is talking about using LLMs to find bugs, like a static analyzer. That's grand and all, but you're talking about vibe code, and he's not.
I'm also not impressed with the high false-positive rate and psychologically-manipulative behavior Greg describes having experienced in his interactions with bots. Maybe he finds that tolerable, but I don't.

This explains why I often feel like the only one on Earth who *doesn't* think social media is evil.
The #Fediverse *is* what “social media” means to me. I've heard of Instagram and the rest, but I've never actually used them. I've never struggled with their algorithms. I don't even know what that's like.
So when politicians talk about banning social media, I'm horrified. Why would anyone want to ban this place? This place isn't hurting anybody. And where else would I socialize?

Umm that is not going to wipe it in any reasonably secure fashion. All the bytes will still be there, just unlinked. Forensics people can still recover them after that.
Definitely use actual wipe tools for that sort of thing.

Only a few ID-check regulations have a “too small” provision. Most of them do apply to Fediverse servers, and therefore make it illegal to operate one.

Whenever somebody gets excited about a consumer #router, I can't help but chuckle and think back to this graph.
In the article where this graph is featured, it is captioned, “Pictured: flawless victory.”
Consumer #routers suck. Use a real #computer! Even if it's a dinky little box that looks like a cheap knock-off of the Mac Mini, it'll eat consumer routers for breakfast.
