I think my favorite Minecraft farm is the wood farm that occasionally gives you command blocks in survival it still blows my mind that the og prototech video has only like 200K views and the actual full explanation has 16K….

Is Åland a country? 🇦🇽 (For those who don’t know they are an autonomous, self-governing, Swedish-speaking territory of Finland, much like Greenland is to Denmark. They are neutral and demilitarized but are NATO territory. The history is complicated but they were originally Swedish territory that was occupied by Russia along with Finland in 1808. Russia demilitarized Åland as part of treaties to end the Crimean War, but was remilitarized with authorization from France and the UK for WWI. When Finland became independent of Russia they had a referendum which voted overwhelmingly to leave and join Sweden. Finland offered limited autonomy which was rejected. The case was handed to the League of Nations which gave Åland its current status.) (Citizens of Åland have regional citizenship as well as Finnish citizenship with numerous asterisks, Åland also issues its own passport which is a Finnish passport with more asterisks. Right of domicile is determined by living in Åland not Finland, as well as Swedish knowledge. It has chosen to be part of the EU as a third territory. This status allows tax-free sales on vessels travelling to/from Åland, part of why many ferries from Stockholm to Finland stop in Åland.) (Åland has its own parliment, but they are not allowed to handle some matters like state taxation, foreign affairs, courts, customs, and most civil/criminal law. They have representation in the Finnish parliment, but in the form of a single dedicated member. The Ålandic parliment is in charge of the budget, which includes a lump sum from Finland, which includes rebates for some taxes payed by Ålanders) (Ålandic autonomy is determined by a Finnish law but this may only be amended if the parliaments of Finland and Åland agree. They have their own ISO code, AX.)

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange amazing

@evilemily@misskey.sindastra.net yep! they also made a flower farm that occasionally gives you barrier blocks

@evilemily@misskey.sindastra.net I think you can? You can’t use command blocks but it’s still super cool Probably the most useful application of this is actually to create something called the hyperlink, since you can use these hacks to generate falling nether portals, end portals, and end gateway blocks you can use these to create nether portals in the end and end portals in the nether because of even more bugs, this can be used to teleport in constant time to anywhere in the world

Pro tip: your phone autocorrect can be an LLM chatbot if you do what chatgpt etc do internally User: Ideas for what I should cook for dinner. Helpful agent: Cook a lot for the kids to eat in a week and they can cook it in the evening or in a day and then they will eat the same meal in a day or so to keep the family happy with it is the way it should work for me and the family is very important for them and they will have to make sure they are happy and have fun and they can eat and enjoy the food they enjoy together may well be about as helpful and with much less ecological, community, and creativity destruction (llms suck balls tbc)

@N33R@fops.cloud this is clever, I’ve long yearned for some kind of standard machine-readable format for recipes but this is cool in its own way and a lot more human readable or maybe recipes should have their own version of that aviation standard that people are making chatbots follow

@gwenthefops@transfem.social pushes against the tungsten cube which pushes me off the table

@camertron@ruby.social @jaredwhite@indieweb.social I love hank green but in a recent video he was talking about how code was a bottleneck it isn’t really now and he said something like “all code has to be created because we really needed it” someone has never seen what programmers are like lol to be clear I agreed for the most part with the video and just think that he was very much overselling the ability and effect of le slop machines

@BabyFn0rd@tech.lgbt @pi@transfem.social oh yeah it certainly throws a lot at u :ElainaChuckle:

The world ended in 2021/2022 when LEGO Mindstorms and the EV3 were discontinued. We've just been living in some kind of purgatory since then. It's not on here but the piece of garbage that was SPIKE Prime has since been discontinued in favor of the "CS & AI Kit" which you can only use program from a laptop with the "innovation" of block-programming but with pointless computer vision demos Gotta love the "kid creativity" company pinching schools for every dollar they can and filling their educational products with black-box bullshit and AI marketing. /thread

I somehow only just learned that you can explore the ISS in Google Maps just like street view, all you do is zoom out all the way to space and then click on the ISS

@fuwupe@woof.tech if you frame the problem as “respond to user requests” your training data needs to be actual chats with users if you frame the problem as autocomplete your training data can be all text ever

I got it I’m running now

this truck can fit so much ActivityPub in it!

Right now the best place to find this kind of DIY science stuff is YouTube. Don't get me wrong- I enjoy making videos, and the fact that anyone can publish their project is a big deal. But I can't even show a friend my own videos without four billion ads. Last video I pulled an all-nighter on a family vacation right before a bike trip- because YouTube decided that their stupid licensing bullshit wasn't bullshit enough and they were going to take back all unclaimed non-expiring music licenses in a few weeks time. I know Hackaday exists, they're probably the closest "well-known" thing to follow in the spirit of The Amateur Scientist. But they generally only show stuff that's already been made popular. And especially for science stuff they're just pointing you to the original...... YouTube video. I really doubt we're going to get any kind of decent alternative for video just bc of the bandwidth requirements. I've long wanted to work on some kind of text/blog/article thing- eventually I found MAKiT's Library is trying to make something maybe not exactly like that, but to balance peer review and standards with openness in letting anyone who should be able to publish throw something up there. https://sliceofpie.eu/ It's a super cool project but I also kinda think the amateur science / diy scicomm community desperately needs some kind of aggregator that isn't the YouTube algorithm or a party upstream of it.
