@GetCarter@mastodonapp.uk That's a stunning view…

@stopthatgirl7@famichiki.jp At least we won't need a bin to replace this one.

@cloudthethings@hachyderm.io @Foritus@toot.dusepo.co.uk No no, that's Elonsford Cum Lake. It's easy to get them mixed up.

@estherschindler@newsie.social I have another entry for the list: Unaltered scans of your hand-written (preferably with a fountain pen) draft.

@lain@lain.com Shouldn't they have called it lsocial then? :)

@rperezrosario Specifically: @phanpy  -- @cheeaun has done an absolutely amazing job creating an app that is very configurable, and has amazing features that should be standard (like the Catch-Up feature).

@mcc@mastodon.social I think that last entry is self-answering...

@tristen@illo.social @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org I'm not David, but I recently started carrying an A6 size notebook with a pen loop & pen attached. It's small, convenient and fits in a pocket. And I have Obsidian on my phone so I can transfer any written notes over to my computer easily.

@Pixelix Okay....but blocking a whole platform because of some troll instances doesn't sound like a good policy. There have definitely been more Mastodon troll instances than any other platform... Does blocking the whole Mastodon platform over some troll instances make sense? IMO - better policy would be to use one (or more) of the ban lists to block troll instances rather than blocking a whole platform.

@Pixelix Not exactly the most accurate service if it can't find any Gotosocial servers:

@welshpixie@mastodon.art Good luck. The 100 EE seems to have been discontinued around 2007. I read this blog post that someone found them on the Staedtler Thailand website back in 2007, but they are long gone now.  It also suggested that the 8B was about the closest replacement.

@sunpig@mastodon.scot This gives a whole new meaning to "Orange Cat".

@benroyce Love this guy...

@xkcd For those who don't get it: https://youtu.be/EL-D9LrFJd4

@koantig@mamot.fr I have my delta chat link in a post pinned to my profile... Here's the link: https://i.delta.chat/#6284E22FFE7593A4824AB4979E8BDAD729140FE5&a=2351u6h3f%40nine.testrun.org&n=Unattributed&i=pL4n7PdNq4-TdnRczcTlgQEL&s=_dMvt2byzy_Hzrt-NH3qqaaT

@elena@aseachange.com Looking forward to hearing about your triumph in giving this secretive presentation.

@shoq@mastodon.social Mine isn't so much social, it's the information apps I need...  Like Email, Calendar, Notes, Weather, Health tracker, but social-wise, typically only two.

@evan@cosocial.ca @chillybot@infosec.exchange @alice@lgbtqia.space @admin@gotosocial.social : Please, under no circumstance ever connect gotosocial.social to the tags.pub relay. They do not understand that any service that is going to start messing with our content needs to be 100000000000000 percent OPT-IN ONLY.

@bzdev@fosstodon.org @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange There is a huge difference between short distance commuter trains and long haul freight trains. Here's a History of Diesel Engines from Union Pacific.

@koantig@mamot.fr Nobody's used it...lol...

@petealexharris@mastodon.scot @evacide@hachyderm.io Well that's just a given. So, why not max your value since you won't be a Goose anymore…

@tchambers@indieweb.social @404mediaco@mastodon.social I think the AI bros are in for a surprise.  So far the courts have said that anything produced by AI is not copyrightable. And, since most open source licenses (MIT, GPL, etc.) are based on the premise that copyright allows modification of the terms of copyright. For example, EmDash likely cannot be licensed under the MIT license. Why? Because they MIT License is relying on copyright.  From their own license: "The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software." They are stating that they are using a copyright notice to waive the conditions of copyright. By, EmDash as an AI generated product cannot be copyrighted. I read that, somewhat ironically, as disqualifying from any license that relies on copyright, or being copywritten itself.

@isotopp Jezzus... I worked on a job where we had to have an uptime of %99.9 per year. That's ~8.75 hours max of outages per year. What would these idiots do, say, "oopsie!"

@veroandi @Pixelix No - it's not a stats on users, it's an index of the instances available, and whether they have open registrations. It's basically just an alternative Fediverse Observer or FediDB implmenetation.

@etchedpixels@mastodon.social @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange Trains are more efficient because the steel on steel design has a lower contact surface between the rail and the wheel. I was wrong in stating that there is more friction, especially when compared to rubber against concrete, which has a much larger contact surface, and the softer rubber material is more prone to heating from friction. But, friction is still an issue for long haul freight trains. I can clearly state this from first-hand knowledge that the company I worked for did experiments with lowering the temperature and friction of the wheels / rails. Unfortunately, the experiment they did while I was with the company did not achieve the desired results. I don't know if they were going to work any more on it. Intermodal does address quite a few issues.  Now, if an intermodal tram system could be developed, that might go some distance in addressing the last mile//kilometer problem. (See what I did there? :ab_grin:)

@sarahdalgulls IMO - whenever I've seen these types of scams I've mostly ignored them, based on the fact I know they are scams. However, the few times when one of these has actually looked legitimate I've done something the scammers don't expect: I check the bank account, credit card, or whatever would be affected.  IE, I go to the source that would be affected instead of going to their fake links. I generally check these sources for anything that looks out of the ordinary: credits or debits that I don't recognize. If I don't recognize a transaction, I dig into that transaction to verify it. If I can't verify I contact the bank, credit card, or whichever entity I need to for further investigation. This, IMO, I think is one of the best ways to handle this situation... It's an asymmetric response that scammers cannot control. How many times have I had to employ it? I think twice in the past five years. But I'm more scam aware than a lot of non-technical people, so I hope this is good advice, especially when something like this comes up.

@evacide@hachyderm.io Good story overall, but disheartening to read these parts: …while some workers will also help improve and train the AI systems. and The company said it would not abandon its use of AI, but plans to now use it in conjunction with human oversight and experience. IOW—we're rehiring you to train yourself out of a job…

@etchedpixels@mastodon.social  Okay - so I likely mistook @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange to be posting from an American perspective. Trams are a local, short distance solution. That won't scale well to long distance freight hauling, especially not for a country the size of America. Japan's cargo shinkansen is very new: it's only been in operation for about the last 3 weeks, and is currently a single train running once a day, over a limited route... Basically it's a test case being done in response to a shortage in trucks. Now, if we wanted to look at the idea of using trams as a solution to the last mile problem, that would be interesting... But given the politics of this country it would likely not happen. (sigh)

@thelinuxcast I have several storage solutions.  The main one is a couple of stands / racks that are on my desktop. Another is a wood pen case I keep on a nearby shelf. All my pens that aren't stored in these locations are stored in pen rolls that I keep in a drawer.

@thelinuxcast Here it is without the peel. Took a moment to get it, but it defintely looks better without it.

@thelinuxcast Should have mentioned - the two black horizontal ones are on Amazon as well.  They are made with a nice acrylic...I really wish they made a five pen version.

@piefedadmin This is very much a massive violation of the transparency, trust and privacy of users on the #Fediverse. I've been uncovering numerous #aiagents and #aiprofiles on the Fediverse that do not disclose they are automated accounts, and trying to pass themselves off as regular users. Those accounts are complete violation of the rights of the #Fedizens to maintain their privacy and the autonomy of the information they share. This is actually a worse violation.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange As someone that worked for a railroad, there are lots of reasons this isn't the solution you think it is. First, only a single train can be on a given segment of track, unlike trucks which can have dozens. Second, trains are slower. They are more difficult to control because of the lower friction of steel wheels on steel rails. This also makes it a lot more difficult (read: impossible) for them to travel steep inclines directly. Descending sharp inclines is actually more difficult. The infrastructure needed for monitoring and controlling trains is a lot more complicated than it is for automobiles / trucks. The last mile problem: trains are great for moving bulk freight over long distances, but getting that freight to its final destination still requires another mode of transportation. Trains actually use diesel fuel, they just do it more efficiently by using the fuel to power a generator to produce electricity. Converting them to batteries would have similar issues to electric trucks (IE, the weight required in batteries to power the train). Not to mention a balancing issue: you'd need some way to have the batteries distributed along the length of the train - if you centralize them into the engine or a single car, you create more problems for controlling the train. There are so many more issues than you've thought of here.  I know this was likely meant as a shitpost, but it's not a well considered one.

@thelinuxcast Nice... I like the drawer for storing ink.

@bitinn I answerd no, but understand: I am self employed and set my own policies. :ab_grin:

@Pixelix Now you are making things worse. What about blocking a whole platform is a "development help"?  Why would you want to block a platform that has hundreds of instances, instead of one that has 5-10 instances that no one is likely to miss? I ignored whether it was a front or back end issue (ie "...remove the filter from the search page.") because it is irrelevant.

@paul_ipv6 @thelinuxcast Thanks - the issue was I thought there was wrap on the outside, turns out it was only on the inner edge of the rack.

Since @evan@cosocial.ca seems unable (or unwilling) to understand that many users desire the #FediVerse to be a place where opt-in is the normal and expected implementation for features such as #relays I propose that #fedidevelopers take up this call. The problem: the implementation of relays lacks sufficient user-based controls. While users may (at least on platforms such as GotoSocial) add relays they desire to have their content sent to, there are no user based controls over relays configured at the instance level. The current implementation appears to have unintended, and unconsidered consequences associated with it. Ban evasion can likely be achieved through chaining relays together. We have already seen the unintended consequence of a relay following tags.pub leading to content being relayed non-consensually. Something that has not been considered is potential damages to users in regions where political, social, or religious beliefs are sensitive topics need to maintain tight controls over where their content is sent. This is a case where the handling and relaying of posts needs to be 100 percent bulletproof. The Solution: all platforms in the Fediverse should implement instance level relays in the following manner: Instance level relays are disabled for all users on that instance.User settings provide a list of the relays provided at the instance level.Users can opt to leave the relay(s) disabled, orThey can choose to enable the relays they trust their content being sent to. Through this implementation we avoid clunky workarounds like adding hashtags to profiles. Also, we make this feature more discoverable for new users who are unfamiliar with the conventions of the FediVerse. I am unfamiliar with the #FEP submission process and requirements. Anyone willing to work with me on this, I would like to see this brought forth as a FEP. #fedideveloperverse #fedideveloper #mastodon #gotosocial #misskeyworld #misskey #pixelfed #microdotblog #pleroma #sharkeydev @alice@lgbtqia.space @admin@gotosocial.social @gotosocial@gts.superseriousbusiness.org @Gargron@mastodon.social

@petealexharris@mastodon.scot @evacide@hachyderm.io You're selling yourself short… My starting rate is 5x the value of the job I'm training my replacement for…

@kaia@pleroma.soykaf.com But nice joke anyways... ;)

@mcc Red is typically the color of warning...for example most warning type of road signs (at least in this country) are red...

@noellemitchell@mstdn.social I've just not been into writing on WordPress for a long time. It's more like a chore that detracts from the joy of writing.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org It's even worse: Independent research tells a worse story. A Recon Analytics survey of more than 150,000 U.S. paid AI subscribers found that Copilot's market share fell from 18.8% in July 2025 to 11.5% by January 2026 — a 39% contraction. The most damaging finding: when workers only have access to Copilot, adoption sits at 68%. Add ChatGPT as an option and Copilot drops to 18%. Add Gemini on top of that and just 8% choose Copilot. (4) That drop — from 68% to 8% — gets to the core of why Nadella is taking direct control and shuffling the team. Microsoft can put Copilot in front of 450 million users, but 9 out of 10 of them choose competitors. Imagine how bad you must suck if 92% of your users choose the competition.
