@Taweret@timeloop.cafe Huh, I saw the play many decades ago. It'll be interesting to see how the movie adapts iy. #Monsterdon

#Monsterdon I liked one (1) thing about the movie. The scenes where it becomes clear that the time-thingy was going to collide with itself. Nice. Actual time-travel trope.

@ohiofi@mastodon.social#Monsterdon Wait, people don't now?

Hey #Monsterdon! I'm catching up with my backlog of podcasts, and the second most-recent episode (no. 877) of The Skiffy and Fanty Show has as its subject that classic 1980s movie, a Monsterdon selection, The Stuff! Cc: @shaunduke@wandering.shop

#Monsterdon "Devil's Hopyard." Well it's more impressive than Plymouth Rock.

@kcarr2015@mstdn.social [Looks at my iced tea] How dare you. #Monsterdon

#Monsterdon

The Dunwich Horror (1970) coming up in just a few minutes!

As always, mute (or follow) the #Monsterdon hashtag to avoid (or stalk) the amazing critiques of this eldritch movie*.

#Monsterdon Wait, you're summoning your intermediary, when all you had to do was unlock the door?

#Monsterdon I never knew the collective members of Monsterdon were such anti-tea fanatics. I'm taking it a little personally. #TeaIsGood

#Monsterdon It's the standard haunted fixer-upper.

#Monsterdon "Here they come. Coming down the street." Gettin' the funniest looks from everyone they meet.

#Monsterdon Well, I had to check: the highest building in Chicago in 1957 was the Prudential Building, at 601 feet/183 meters.

@klu9@ohai.social @Taweret@timeloop.cafe The Wolfen (book) came out eight years before Communion, so this is well before Strieber decided he was part of the alien abduction in-group too (yes, my opinion is cynical). About the only thing I know about the movie is that they used actual wolves instead of huskies.

@sloanlance@mastodon.social @emf@social.emfcamp.org Using Firefox's translate (Swedish to English) on the relevant section:

@Flawgren@mastodon.nu @fesshole@mastodon.social Also, in case you're unfamiliar with it, a postal order (money order in the U.S.) is a way of sending money without using a bank check. You give the clerk the money you want to send, they create the money/postal order, you mail it with your order. It was very useful if you didn't have a bank account or if you wanted to send an international order.

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online [Waits for image to load due to connection] Yeah, probably just a narrow... [image appears] Whoa. That name undersells it.

@apLundell@timeloop.cafe @cshlan@dawdling.net Yup. Done.

@Lemlems@mastodon.social @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us @JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social That's a rejection letter to frame and hang on the wall.

@Z_Zed_Zed@universeodon.com @Alice@beige.party "Fuel Dock" which I *think* is better?

@vga256 Yup. https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/33399

@linuxandyarn@hachyderm.io @catsalad@infosec.exchange @alice@lgbtqia.space Yup. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/248102/chess-ii

@Yehuda I usually put more posting text in the image's alt text than I do in the post. I'm often frustrated by how often the alt text reporting bot ranks my instance. Sometimes we get over 50%, but not often.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org The blackmail attempt is a plot point in When Harlie Was One, so obviously Anthropic is telling the truth and David Gerald needs to sue them.

@nantucketlit@mastodon.social It occurs to me that I've missed out on a lot of YA books that are famous. The Golden Age of YA books seem to have begun just after I left the Teen section of the library behind.

@sven_ola @chessert @nixCraft Yup, this is what I have on my laptops and it's been working well for a few years now. I'm curious, does anyone know why they started offering that option? I was glad to see it, but I was surprised that an organization with a positively viewed distro would split the brand, to use marketing-speak.

@cavyherd@wandering.shop @cptbutton@dice.camp That's very good. I like mini-docs like that. I don't have anything comparable, so I'll just post this link to a mashup I came across while looking up theme songs I liked. I had no idea who Pierre Henry was. #MusicTheory #Mashup #Music #Futurama https://youtu.be/kfatPZbNsZs

@cavyherd@wandering.shop It looks like I'm remembering Unaccompanied Sonata. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unaccompanied_Sonata

@cavyherd@wandering.shop Orson Scott Card had a story with a similar theme, though I think the artists in question were musicians.

So I was not expecting a ratio that was that large. But on the other hand MATE's, let's call it a slowdown, wasn't known to me either when I created the poll, and that may have had an effect. Thank you, everyone who voted. #Poll #Linux #BSD

@mattblaze@federate.social @adafruit@fosstodon.org Sure, and I carry a Leatherman all the time too. But I leave it behind when I'm going to places that would object to the knife that's in it.

@RickiTarr Huh. Rita Roger Jessica Debi ... Uh-oh. So close.

@arclight@oldbytes.space Depending upon my route, I bike by this building occasionally. In person, it's a nice-looking building. I do remember thinking, the first time I saw it, "The Elks? Really?" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elks_National_Veterans_Memorial

@mattblaze@federate.social @adafruit@fosstodon.org I really don't think you can make a case for this rule being stupid though. Agree on the Raspberry Pi though.

@mattblaze@federate.social @adafruit@fosstodon.org Honestly, I can't see a reasonable explanation for carrying a flipper zero to an inauguration party. Given how lights and sound systems operate these days, I could even call it a sensible precaution (just because Guiliani and Cuomo aren't tech savvy, that doesn't mean they don't have disgruntled followers who are). But... have I been missing something in the Raspberry Pi world?

MATE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MATE_(desktop_environment)

@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online Timerift, surely. #Monsterdon

#Monsterdon Huh, looks just like my office.

I was looking up movies to play for October. The Vast of Night seemed like a good choice and... it's not available anywhere in North America? No disc, no streaming, nothing. It's only seven years old. What happened? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6803046 #Films #Filmsstodon #Movies #Monsterdon #TheVastOfNight

@rochesterboy @scalzi And the Monster Mash!

@willowwren@hcommons.social @Taweret@timeloop.cafe I did, with the caveat that it is a little old-fashioned (I mean, 1920 production after all) and that a hundred years later you may be familiar with the plot twist. But there's an over-the-top comedic character, a decently spooky setting, and the bus load of junior high school students who were in the audience too had a blast. #Monsterdon

@willowwren@hcommons.social @Taweret@timeloop.cafe I probably should have just linked directly. The novelization of the play is on Project Gutenberg, see the External Links section. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bat_(play) #Monsterdon

@ZachWeinersmith You didn't happen to remember whose problems, did you? Because I have some thoughts...

#Monsterdon Here's where I get unbelievably picky: That's a coffee carafe, not a teapot.

Xfce https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xfce

@mattblaze@federate.social @jeff@mk.magicka.org @adafruit@fosstodon.org ??? It a party with (I presume) remote-controlled lights and sound systems. We're not talking about a city-wide ban.
