@projectgus@aus.social@xssfox@cloudisland.nz@jpm@aus.social back then there were really only about three vendors worth buying from, so that it's apparently a Symmetricom S300 is no surprise, I own a few myself. The reciever in the original units are Motorola Oncore M12, but plenty have something newer in them.
@spacelizard@aus.social not up for the job, but I'm absolutely certain I'd enjoy spending an afternoon spent with your group as a network engineer / photographer (and also time nut, I'm sure that's involved too). Had a friend who was an operator at the AAO back when they did the upgrade off the Imsai.
@cstross@wandering.shop yeah, I got to point out to some friends that my name is in the announcement photo taken in front of the megadrone. His museum is awesome, I had a brilliant day there back in October.
@mattblaze@federate.social I pretty much always stop and get the same perspective of the Sydney Harbour Bridge when I go past with a proper camera. Sometimes I stop and do so properly, but first one I found offhand was this.
@NewtonMark you know this helps explain why making it be more Australian makes it work better. It swears in ways that get past its own filters and negative feedback does its magic thing better.
@foone@digipres.club wasn't until about 10 years ago that I finally had my laptop switch off CCFL backlight, and I still have a few older monitors with them on my desk at home and work
@fanf@mendeddrum.org Nice. Australian universities had (possibly still do?) fun with not having standard business numbers, which even most government entities have these days, but similar oddities of law mean they didn't (don't?) qualify for them.
@mattblaze@federate.social@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange it's a never ending annoyance at being part of Linux Australia (who run a bunch of conferences & user groups etc), people always complaining we don't use a 100% Free (by their preferred definition) stack to do everything. We try, but focus more on actually serving our community.
@benjojo OpenVPN for a long time used an initial window of 64 byte for TLS setup, I fixed our corp version to at least do 576, it was long enough ago that I couldn't defend 1280, although they did fix upstream a few months later
@ptua@mastodon.social is there a history for the other end? Always thought it odd that it was once electrified but no more. Also odd the V-locity aren't electric when in the area.
@benjojo there's also what subset of routes a network might advertise to the route servers. AS15169 at the time I was its routing czar advertised the minimum reachability subset intended to shift traffic via other paths as long as they existed (I know the policy has changed a few times since I handed off that role)
@popcorncx@aus.social oof. I did 30 one year and regretted it. These days I do live music about twice a week, much more than that is similarly too much.
@xrobau@mastodon.au@bob_zim@infosec.exchange I actually have spinning rust + SSD cache in the main server, but I want small and quiet for the backup box (because of where it needs to live in my house)
