For the #History theme for this week's #JukeBoxFridayNight, here's "Prisoner" by Scottish folk singer Dick Gaughan. My father introdued me to this song and it's stuck with me. At the time I'd known nothing of German Nobel Peace Prize winner Carl von Ossietzky and his fate. Caution: it's a grim song, with an uneasy message. We cannot let this history repeat. "In the struggle against injustice He fought hard and he fought long Child - remember Ossietsky Peace won't come by words alone" https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=59YmX0zvWHc #DickGaughan #WWII

No, what I'm experiencing is closer to being a WW2 pilot. And the sad reality is just like WW2 pilots I've already put in more contact with the forces of fascism than anyone really expects a Black person to survive. https://dayssinceivebeenstoppedbythepolice.com #WWII #HumanRights #WW2 #BlackMastodon #ParentingWhileBlack #Police #ACAB

July 13, 1941 NYT #WWII Jacqueline Cochran is today the No. 1 woman flier of America, having established some seventeen different records. Miss Cochran wants to see women fliers in this country trained for the same kind of work. She says there is now a nucleus of about 200 women who have had the necessary amount of hours. Today flying is not Jacqueline Cochran's whole life. Aside from her successful cosmetic business, she owns a date farm in California. https://www.nytimes.com/1941/07/13/archives/no-i-woman-flier-jacqueline-cochran-who-flew-a-bomber-to-britain.html
