Reports we believe are LLM generated will either be rejected outright or if thought to be plausible will be credited to the unnamed and uncredited authors whose works were ingested as the training corpus.

40 years ago, somebody much more humble had this to say about our industry: https://web.archive.org/web/20190208160541/http://tech.mit.edu/V105/N16/weisen.16n.html

@mhoye@cosocial.ca tired, exhausted, still unemployed and applying to a giant luxury hotel with horrific employee attrition, because it's just a job, as opposed to wading thru LinkedIn and trying to find an IT job that isn't with or for AI.

@swelljoe@mas.to @icing@chaos.social eh… either way, it used to be every time a new developer looked at a corner of a code base that hasn't been touched in 10, 20, 30 years we get, at the very least a bug fix a refactoring
and at least one new person who's now familiar with that code… ⬅️ and the loss of this is perhaps the most frustrating part

Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python, YAML, and shell scripting.
remember, YAML Ain't Markup Language, it's a scripting language.

@vickyrampin@digipres.club yes
but it's got nothing on the scale that LLM crawlers are operating on
or the scale on which LLM bots are contributing (absolute garbage) back to open source projects or Wikipedia
twelve people ripped CDs from the library, this week alone!
vs:
a swarm of bees flew the distance from the earth to the sun to fill this jar of honey
now imagine this swarm having scan books and rip CDs from your library, but when they come back to return them, they also leave new books and new CDs, most of them with valid looking barcodes and NFC tags, none of which are in the system because they were created that afternoon
and of course this isn't just happening at your library, but at every library
and some of the branches, some over eager new employee decided to start adding these new books and CDs to the system and soon your library is more
the scale at which these things are happening is incomprehensible to humans, and the computer systems we built are crumbling under the load, but the human systems that we built are failing at the same time as well

@peter my first coding job, i was still at school back then, was to help a team of physicists in Spain fix up their PHP application that was doing… I don't really remember what any more, but the way it did those things was quite memorable: It was the most convoluted spaghetti code I've ever seen. legit never seen anything this bad ever, and i had to extend it, while ensuring it doesn't break
I don't remember if i succeeded, only that it was scarring. i don't think anyone could have succeed…
really not looking forward to this being the new normal

like doctors say flu and mean the really bad thing
and scientists say theory and mean the thing that their entire work rests on
and normal people hear them and don't take them serious

@dianea@lgbtqia.space @quixoticgeek@social.v.st the last interview i had was thanks to a direct contact in the department who recommended me for the job. even then i had to apply thru the usual channels, and was, naturally, rejected thru them.
it was only thanks to being in contact with the person who recommended me that i actually got to the interviews
(and was then rejected thru those channels, too)
that was in mid December.
nothing since.
