COVID, Health and Musings
Ive had long COVID now for 57 months. Some stray thoughts emerged today.
The first 3 years were the worst. Exhausted, debilitated, unable to work, struggling to deal with a medical system that still has no fucking clue. Scared AF that it would be permanent. Not much of that has changed.
In Nov 2024 I gave up the pretence of working, spent 3 months researching everything about Long COVID, and built myself a treatment plan to target all known theories.
https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/potential-new-treatment-for-brain-fog-in-long-covid-patients/
Guanfacine & NAC+ on top of the existing medication started to make a difference and over the next 6 months things began to improve.
But in my excitement I overloaded my body and it returned with a vengeance. Nov/Dec I wiped out and was back where I started.
The same thing this year in July, juggling changes at work and at home lead to August where I was barely able to move on holiday.
A 2 hour walk was just too much. A conference would wipe me out for 3-4 weeks afterwards. Pacing and knowing my limits is critical.
There is a sorrow for the loss of mental acuity, physical capacity, and knowing that it probably will never return.
But there is also gratitude that I have in part recovered, to a point where most people will not realise that I am in fact disabled, that I can spend time with my family, and in the mountains, to do the work and FLOSS development that I love. Just in moderation.

#PortsLife #FreeBSD I spent another morning updating and patching a bunch of stuff. I have a couple of new interesting ports to share:
PatDiff: diffs for the discerning developer
- https://github.com/janestreet/patdiff textproc/patdiff is one of my favourite command line tools, your diffs never look so good and clean! Gorgeous output, written in #OCaml
markpdf / markterm: PDFs from markdown
- https://github.com/ralsina/markterm ported mainly because it provides a great markdown->PDF tool, with pagination support! I want this for simple invoice generation, and it was really quick to put a fake one together! Written in #Crystal.
The lovely fonts are from https://mbtype.com/
Valkyrie B for the table https://mbtype.com/fonts/valkyrie/sample.html Advocate 55 Wide Med for the headings https://mbtype.com/fonts/advocate/sample.html
DejaVu Sans for the body, public domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DejaVu_fonts from https://github.com/dejavu-fonts/dejavu-fonts

#unFollowFriday:
https://DigitalOcean.com/ for supporting Fascist #Omarchy.
I just cancelled my account there, I've been a user/customer since very early days. So disappointed.
I repeatedly linked to https://stopomarchy.org/ in my "Customer Satisfaction Survey". You can too.

For all the AI slop coders and writers out there, there is a moment of sadness, of pity, when I excitedly read your post or code, and then realise there was no human involved.
And I just … walk away. I stop.
It fills me with sadness and pity for you, and grief for the loss of our creativity.
By all means slop at work, they’re paying you for it.
But declare it in your open source, your art, and writing. At the top, and in the toot.
Because there is nothing from you in it, that I can learn.

@stsp@bsd.network these days I think there’s just a handful of people doing free software drivers and everybody depends on them but nobody realises this. It’s scary AF.

Are there good examples of *accessible-first* #CSS frameworks, with common components/widgets?
I'm looking for something that is well regarded by its users, and has enough installed base that it's not going to disappear overnight.
This is intended for a possible replacement for a tailwind project, inside a #Phoenix #LiveView app.
https://darekkay.com/blog/accessible-ui-frameworks/ already has a lot of links, I'll dig through them over the next few days.
Bonus points if it doesn't come with an extraordinarily painful npm install & run process.

Crisis #fediHelp I’m searching fruitlessly for a short comedy video from LionField who are a couple of Italians doing clips about #PastaCrimes. This specific one starts off with a woman taking minced beef and wrapping the pasta inside it and then drenching it in barbecue sauce. They react screaming in Italian and then play 3 grandmas appalled at it.
Anybody got a link to this one?

These days, instead of screaming into the void, I just sit down beside it, and say "I know, Void, I know". Even voids need to be comforted occasionally, everybody screams at them and nobody's giving back.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange yes.https://doggo.mrkaran.dev/docs/ | https://github.com/mr-karan/doggo in particular, for me as a dyslexic person, it has colour output, json formatting, and will happily answer multiple questions at once (e.g. a + aaaa above, or multiple domain names as well). It even perversely has an optional web ui (why) https://doggo.mrkaran.dev/
e.g.:
$ doggo a aaaa t.me @1.1.1.1 @4.2.2.2 @8.8.8.8 @74.82.42.42
says that 4.2.2.2 is still answering queries for t.me, but nobody else will.
