Best behind-the-scenes captures of Goatmire's orchestra and vocal training so far. Ellyse was a phenomenal contributor and collaborator throughout. So glad she wrote this up.

There were 14.5 workshops that actually took place at Goatmire.

We lost two to illness. We regained half an AI workshop due to ingenuity from attendees.

This was a phenomenal start to the conference.

Goatmire had 3 distinct original pieces of music composed for it. This was Tom Petterson, Ellyse Cedeno and I believe involved Sam Aaron for some collaboration. And it was all initially caused by Flora Petterson.

These were all performed at various points on the electromechanical orchestra Flora had prototyped and we'd built out together.

Goatmire had ~30 speakers covering a very wide gamut of topics and styles. I've consistently heard that the level of talks was outstanding. Our speakers should be proud.

I don't have much more to say. I am very happy with what this is.

I think it is doing well.

Our conference report has been written. It is insufficient. Please tell us your favorite parts of whatever this was.

The horns sound out in the theater. Resonant in a space that predates amplifiers. The drum strikes deeply. I enter the stage in the mist of the smoke machine and green light. I can't see the audience but I hear the murmuring. A nervous smile as I launch into a silly loveletter to our open source community, dressed in serious ceremonial garb.

Watching ticket sales for your event is nerve-wracking. But just had a nice 9-ticket bump from a company that seem to be bringing a whole-ass team. On that note, if you want to do Goatmire, there won't be one next year and we don't know when the final ticket-buying rush starts. We'll be packing the place to the limit so when full, it is completely full.

@viticci@mastodon.macstories.net I wonder if you'd prefer KDE to whatever the Ubuntu default is these days.

It is a relatively cohesive experience. It doesn't try to be MacOS. It definitely isn't Windows.

And it has a lot to offer for power users without sending you into the terminal constantly. Quite easy to try via Kubuntu. I'd be curious to hear how you like it. Not affiliated, just prefer it personally.

Rather than using "AI" you can actually _do_ AI/ML. The math, the code, the whole thing. Way fancier than writing text prompts.

Alvise is coming to Goatmire to show you how with a proper ML workshop.

Damn. Safari is the dumbest most frustrating browser.

I've tried to use it because something about Chrome on MacOS just ended up grinding CPU for no reason repeatedly. And I was travelling so a quick switch was necessary.

Neither sparks joy.

"our design takes death seriously .. managed with dignity"

Evadne Wu consistently gives fascinating talks. We were very selective with what agent-oriented talks we accepted for Goatmire. She hit some really interesting points.

I mostly program in Elixir. So tracing is an overloaded term. This post relates to both of them and how we can use BEAM and Erlang fundamentals to do wild things for observability that wouldn't be practical in most runtimes. Let's load some hot code.

Did you have a Sleep Token moment when they were the thing? Otherwise, recommend.

I had a week recently when my entire YouTube was just people listening to Maphra and Angine de Poitrine.
