I am building another #iOS app to help me learn #japanese . This one is not about reading, like Yomu, but about analyzing and explaining grammar in Japanese sentence.

Looking for fellow #japaneselanguage learners to test the beta available via TestFlight. Link and more info at https://setsumeiapp.kulman.sk/

Now that there are interesting small language models available I am back to my idea to make a app that would explain Japanese grammar to student like myself.

Currently working on a prototype to test the feasibility because I want it to work on every iOS device not just the few ones that support running the local Apple models so I am training my own small model.

So far so good the prototype works on my iPhone 15. Everything works locally and offline.

For a long time I have been looking for a midsize (36mm) Omega Seamaster for my small wrist. Omega stopped making midsize versions years ago. Now it is just 41mm and 42mm.

I originally wanted the "Bond" one with light blue aluminum bezel insert but that scratches very easily so it is very hard to find one in a good condition.

I found one with steel bezel for a good price and could not resist.

For a 20-25 years old watch it still looks very good, no big scratches or over-polishing and more importantly it still runs well so no servicing needed for now.

A friend suggested I translate a few posts from my Slovak blog, where I write about things other than programming, into English. He thinks some of them deserve a wider audience, so let’s give it a try.

Here’s one of my favorites:

Finally got my certificate for passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for the N4 level in December. Now I passed N5 and N4 with a year between them but N3 will not be that easy, or that fast.

I wrote a post about the latest addition to my watch collection, this time also in English: The Omega Seamaster Professional 300M that surprised me https://www.kulman.sk/en/omega-seamaster-professional-300m-36mm/

The Omega Seamaster Professional 300M that surprised me

I have liked the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M for a long time. Not exactly because James Bond wore one, although it is hard to avoid that connection with this model. More because the watch has a design of its own and does not try to be just another variation on the Rolex Submariner. The wave dial, prominent bezel, skeletonized hands, helium escape valve at ten o’clock and distinctive five-link bracelet make it a watch you recognize immediately.

Sometimes I spend too much time on details when working on my own stuff. Like when creating a simple page with list of my iOS apps that nobody really visits I implemented not just light and dark theme but made sure the app icons change according to the theme like they do on iOS.

Nothing Works and Everyone Is Euphoric

As I’m writing this, we’re in the middle of an AI-induced mass psychosis. People are literally token-maxxing themselves into hospital beds, scrambling to capture some of that market value before everything is automated away. I can’t blame them. Models keep getting better, programmers are being laid off left and right. We’ve been repeatedly told that AI will write 100% of the code by the end of the year. Whether that’s true or not, this may not be the best time to sit back.

Programming Still Sucks. — Writing

Sorry Peter. — I'm at a birthday party, and while most people here also work in tech, there's always a Guy with a Real Job. You know, a physical job, building some or other thing people need. And this Guy always asks some variant of the same question: aren't you worried AI is taking your job? I glance around and see a few faces turning around toward us, rolling their eyes ever so slightly before returning to their previous conversation. Yes, this question again.

It's getting harder to focus every day

I’m feeling it right now. I had to set a timer for 15 minute on my computer and block all distractions to write this. If I didn’t force myself to focus I would easily get distracted by something after few minutes. Even when I’m doing things that I’ve been waiting to do it, I still feel the urge to do something else. I don’t know how and when this happened. During the last few years I was always studying, working, and doing open source. And actually got stuff done. Doing all of those at the same

The async/await saga is a story where each chapter solves the previous chapter's worst problem while introducing new structural costs. The sequential syntax that made async code readable also obscures the thing that matters: which operations actually depend on each other.
