This from @emptywheel@mastodon.social hits home:
"But I also realized, as I watched the Michigan version of these events today, that Harris and Cheney are also modeling democracy. They are giving people … what they want: a democracy where people talk to one another."

@Computer@dice.camp note that since nothing has happened, those troubleshooters who were not on standby are considered truant. Any claims that they were involved in firefights, chasing commie mutant traitors or otherwise doing anything other than slacking off are deemed treasonous lies by the computer.
Their pay will be docked, and any claims that they were promised hazard bonuses are to be considered confessions of treason.

Warum also abhängig sein?

@Computer@dice.camp your job, troubleshooter, is to protect Kash-PAT-3. No, not from commie mutant traitors, but from himself. Find his alcoholic beverages before he does. Try to keep him from accidentally shooting himself.
The last batch of troubleshooters set a new record in clones incinerated. Try not to top that record.

@cstross@wandering.shop @DamonCrowley@mindly.social expect lots of obviously fake images to flood the media. They aren't designed to be plausible, but to make us assume all images are fake.
I think the fable of the boy who cried wolf needs to updated, with clever wolves tricking the kid into sounding the alarm so much that the townsfolk no longer react, and then the wolves finally pounce. The original is a "serves you right" warning against raising false alarms, not that you can't be lulled into ignoring alarms.

@rauschma@fosstodon.org it is an art, finding the balance. And one that makes the best in the field of writing such things stand out.

@pathunstrom @JoshuaACNewman this is why I feel If Hemingway Wrote JavaScript such an important book. Angus Croll saw that code is literature in its own way.

@cstross@wandering.shop @patcharcana@furry.engineer at least you can see the orcs and dragons. It's the artillery shells and bombs dropped from so high you can't see the source that really make memories.
Or in magical worlds, the fog that rolls in and kills your buddies, leaving you and the other survivors to wonder what happened.

@pewnack@aus.social @peterrenshaw@ioc.exchange @fesshole@mastodon.social in a way, "n00b" is self deprecating, because of the l33tsp33k origin and the deliberate misspelling. If intentional, it can be humanizing, so context matters.
I see it as shorthand in many cases for "oh, you sweet summer child", but I was never a gamer.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online as someone who used to write Flash apps, I am wondering what you're railing against. Is it acting as if web apps are equal to local code? Fully agree. But sometimes I want to access stuff on the browser, and that's when I use a web app.
But they never get installed. That's just a lie we frontend devs tell ourselves. They shouldn't be installed, just used as a temporary tool.

@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop @clifff@shakedown.social the simplest answer? They want you to easily post from it. So they ask for access so they can share for you. And share with their advertisers, so that they can sell you pablum based on your health, scams that match your income, and so on.
The sad part is, it's just copypasta from Instagram, so they are used to asking for all of this info.

@cstross@wandering.shop that reminds me too much of the Butthole Surfers. For now I'm going with The Remora, since his whole schtick seems to be finding something or someone more powerful and sucking up.
In a way, he's like those literary antagonists who ingratiate themselves then try to kill the person they are impersonating.
