@duncan_bayne @cwebber but the politicians are rarely tech savvy enough to come up with the wording. It is often given to them.

@mullvadnet the most infuriating part is that if you try to opt out your data from the broker, they ask you to give them private data to prove you are who you are. As if anyone would suffer a prejudice from being opted out against their will.

@susankayequinn seems like the solution is that they should limit how many new titles they allow every year. People can be prolific, but they can't write 5 novels a year and maintain quality. They should have a derogation process for authors that are uploading to BN a large number of books that were published elsewhere.

@enron@tilde.zone I don't think Pokemon Go was made for training weapons. I think people who wanted to train weapons saw the potential of Pokemon Go and that is completely different.

AI companies are still years away from making a profit, if they ever do. The government is dumping billions into an industry without a guaranteed return and creating few jobs through the data centres being built. In fact, it’s more likely they are leaving Canadian workers vulnerable by financing the industry without putting in place appropriate safeguards to protect workers’ rights.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I remember the MeToo list. I was generally down for the concept especially when it was specific like So and So who is in band X or John Brown-Little who teaches at Y.
But some of them were like Simon Tremblay fron Montreal or Mike Johnson from DC and I was like.... how is that helpful? There are clearly dozens of Mike Johnsons in DC.

@burger_jaap@mastodon.social I am shocked anyone would consider installing a gas boiler in 2026. Especially considering the mild French winters and that heat pumps also supply a/c.

exactly, the problem is these companies are at the top of indices and small investors buy indices, then it boosts the stocks who get higher and on even more indices.
Ppl you know with 20k/100k/300k all their retirements in ETFs or mutual funds.
"Common sense" in the small investor world is to "buy the s&p500" or buy another "all included diversified ETF" usually with the largest share of its exposure to US stocks.

@JMarkOckerbloom@mastodon.social @peterpur@hci.social the library should ask for its money back.
It's like the people who got sick because they bought an AI generated mushroom guide.

@IanAMartin@thecanadian.social @cstross@wandering.shop I feel like I should know who painted that cover but I can't put my finger on it. I was going to say Dave Palumbo because of the palette, but not enough brush strokes.
