@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online All that may be true, but Ken White doesn't post on Mastodon anymore either, and cited the constant "HOA" scolding as his reason for leaving. He's got a point. I like Mastodon. I'm using Mastodon right now. But for all that it's decentralized, Mastodon's got its own cultural problems that put people off. Including Ken White. Hell, even now I'm half-expecting some reply-guy to scold me for saying "Mastodon" when they think I should have said "Fedi". https://mastodon.social/@Popehat/111427290962583386

@tankgrrl@hachyderm.io Penny Arcade has some thoughts too. https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2026/07/29/cyberbullies

@blogdiva@mastodon.social And given his defenses of both Joe Paterno and Danny Masterson, his concern about abuse doesn't exactly seem too sincere either.

@zackwhittaker Boy I'm sure looking forward to the Android update that's going to require every app to be signed by a Google developer account.

@gbargoud But what if the wrong children get to eat? @CStamp @realtegan @mekkaokereke

@harrymccracken@mastodon.social Ha! I don't know if I've ever seen Monte's work before but I looked at those thumbnails and thought "Wow, that's almost-but-not-quite Basil Wolverton."

@Craigp I don't think its name is the *only* thing that's been holding it back. But I agree that it's a significant factor.

@danirabbit The mechanisms that are supposed to prevent this unfortunately involve Congress and the Supreme Court not being in his pocket and a plurality of voters not deciding hey, let's give that rage-filled criminal lunatic another chance.

@Nonilex@masto.ai What a relief. But it's a sign of the times that there was ever any question.

@Craigp Yeah, I agree with that. I don't think it would have put it in a position to take out Adobe, but it would almost certainly be in a better position than it's in. And of course the name is symptomatic of a bigger, more general problem, of projects being led by overgrown teenage boys who retreat into a defensive "can't you take a joke?" posture when someone tells them they're putting people off.

@KydiaMusic The other day I saw a headline use the word "stream" to describe a show airing on broadcast TV.

@Teri_Kanefield@mastodon.social It doesn't look like you're using a Captcha; they're not perfect but they do a decent job of keeping bots from submitting contact forms. Looks like you're using Wordpress. I use Friendly Captcha. You can sign up for a free account at https://friendlycaptcha.com/ and you should be able to find the plugin like this: Go to your Wordpress dashboard Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin Search for Friendly Captcha for Wordpress (I'm not affiliated with the site or plugin, I just use it)

@tedmielczarek And usually when someone says "keep politics out of it" they mean keep politics that aren't *theirs* out of it. I'll never forget the time my grandma forwarded me an e-mail that was a lengthy rant about how Hollywood celebrities should just shut up and stay out of politics and then closed, without a shred of irony, with a Ronald Reagan quote. @mhoye

@Nonilex@masto.ai And of course the headline in the NYT will be "Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship" and not all the other horrible shit they just did. Which is probably exactly what Roberts had in mind.

@Nonilex@masto.ai Other than the Federal Reserve because the only limit they'll put on Trump's power is "don't fuck with the money."

@annaleen @flaminghydra Vweep. Zorp! Tktktktktk PWEEEEEET

@bennomatic@appdot.net Tina Turner's Proud Mary Joe Cocker's With a Little Help from My Friends They Might Be Giants' Istanbul (not Constantinople) Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You Johnny Cash's Hurt Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart Aretha Franklin's Respect

@hgrsd Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is one of those. Particularly the Rankin-Bass adaptation where even Santa is a total shit about his nose until he realizes it's useful to him.

@benroyce@mastodon.social I support the NPVIC but I wouldn't say it *kills* the EC. It kills its most pernicious effect, and that's a good thing, but it's still a first-past-the-post system that allows candidates to win without a majority of the vote. It would have stopped Trump in 2016 but not 2024. It might be the best we can do without a constitutional amendment (assuming it survives the courts), so I support it for that reason. It's a good first step but it's not the last one.

@drmaddkap Like that time Keith Olberman wore a magenta coat and they stuck him next to Big Bird.

@Nonilex@masto.ai Bar referrals! Finally!

@Nonilex@masto.ai The "tough on crime" party.

@MissConstrue@mefi.social He does have a whiff of Putin about him.

@TechDesk Well, they seem to have read the survey responses saying "stop imitating Chrome, the only reason anyone uses Firefox is that they don't want Chrome." Too bad they skipped over the "we don't fucking want AI either" ones.

@Strandjunker@mstdn.social To establish an order of succession following the JFK assassination. Talk of removing Trump under 25A misunderstands what it's for and how it works. It has a mechanism for the VP to take over if POTUS is in a coma (& for POTUS to reassume power if he wakes up), but it's not for removing a POTUS who's dangerously incompetent. That's what impeachment is for. 25A removal is a higher threshold than impeachment. If 2/3 of the House supported removal, why wouldn't they just impeach?

@augieray Evangelicals aren't big fans of Catholics in the first place. As for conservative Catholics, maybe this will make some of them nervous. But I expect most of them are on the same page as Hannity.

@Elindur@retro.pizza FYI HBO didn't renew Sesame Street and it's at Netflix now. I see 6 of the 8 Netflix episodes available on pbskids.org (along with other, older episodes) and I believe all 8 are in the broadcast rotation. Not to excuse HBO's gatekeeping at all, but it at least looks like Netflix is handling it better than they did.

@samlitzinger@journa.host Well, the premise that if the president WAS completely corrupt, at least one of the other two branches would do something about it.

@gamingonlinux How's the D-pad? I don't see a lot of reviews talking about it. Have you tried any 2D platformers or fighting games, say?

@phoronix@masto.ai $99? Jeez, I want one but I don't want it *that* badly. Guess I'll wait for a sale.

@jeffjarvis Elon Musk, famously committed to making sure everybody gets the resources they need.

@cigitalgem "YouTube’s dispute process places enormous trust in whoever files the claim, with little built-in protection for independent artists who lack legal resources." - this is true but that's also because that's what the law incentivizes. There are serious consequences for failing to comply with takedown requests, and effectively no consequences for filing them fraudulently. YouTube certainly could do a better job, but we need to change the law.

@ChrisJagged@mastodon.social The old guard, your Trumps and Murdochs and so on, don't care. Guys like Musk and Zuckerberg and Gates do; they're obsessed with their place in history. But they're still not going to listen when somebody tells them they're fucking up.

@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop Would sure be nice if Don Heck's family got a piece of that, but obviously I'm dreaming.

@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online Or Bush in 2000.

@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop Is it the guy in purple and green? Those are villain colors.

@octothorpe@mastodon.online Figuring out how to bolt deduplication onto a filesystem that isn't designed for it is an impressive short-term fix, but hopefully they're looking into filesystems that *are* designed for it.

@theleftistlawyer I blocked and reported a popular account the other day for posting an antisemitic cartoon of Alex Karp. It's fucking exhausting looking at somebody and thinking we're on the same side and then realizing *nope* they've got a very different reason for not liking Netanyahu and Karp than I do.

@flargh I feel like Dick might have come the closest. And he did a lot of drugs.

@ComicContext@mstdn.social Hey, that one looks familiar.

@lyndamerry484@mastodon.social The United States has been invading the United States since last summer.

@rockpapershotgun "From the 8 to 16-bit era" makes it sound like you're talking about two different time periods, rather than a single era where games were released for both 8- and 16-bit consoles concurrently. The 16-bit game is the original; the 8-bit ports came after.

@davidnjoku The nostalgia for the original moon landing does tend to gloss over the geopolitical context it happened in.

@socketwench@masto.hackers.town I remember when the MP3 patents expired Fraunhofer put out a press release declaring that the format was being "discontinued" because it was "obsolete" and a bunch of credulous news outlets picked it up uncritically. https://gizmodo.com/developers-of-the-mp3-have-officially-killed-it-1795205540

@georgetakei There are dozens of dildos at the ICE facility, and also I see some sex toys on the ground.

@eclectech Noah Hawley? Oh man, next season of Fargo's gonna be something.

@Nonilex@masto.ai Clarence Thomas has been trying to lower the standard for defamation for public figures for a decade. It seems like there's probably a reason why he'd be so interested in making it easier for public figures to sue the media for their reporting, but I can't quite put my Long Dong Silver on it.

@jeffjarvis@mastodon.social Well, there are worse Murdochs, I guess.

@Elindur@retro.pizza I'll add that my 3-year-old loves Daniel Tiger and hasn't seen much of the original Mr. Rogers, but we caught one of the old episodes on a Sunday morning recently and they were absolutely enchanted by it. It really is timeless.

@AliceStollmeyer@eupolicy.social I guess Europeans probably don't immediately associate "W" with former US President Bush? Because that's the first thing I think of when I see it.
