Retired, married, gay, more UK than Canada, avoid divisive politics, struggling to be positive due to my spouse's health situation—sorry.
-
More people on the block have expressed interest in a cookie exchange next month, to prepare for Christmas parties.
-
The [straight] guy who lives in our house has a magnificent pornstache that I was silently admiring today as we watched straight-man baseball on TV, #ffs how did it come to this, baseball, and it wasn't awful, Phillies and some team that starts with A.
-
As a volunteer, I wrote a post that was published today on a website.
Today was tough, but there were #ThreeGoodThings:
-
I managed to put lanoline on his feet and hands, and he also put some on. Gotta treat that hand and foot syndrome 5×/day.
-
I bought apples, squash, and other ingredients for the pies I'm baking this week. But, um …
-
That pie was supposed to be for a dinner earlier this evening, which we missed. Our hosts graciously rescheduled it to Thursday. 🧡💛
Here's to friends, oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, and lab technicians. #3GoodThings
-
He's out with a friend eating French pastries, which he enjoys. And drinking coffee.
-
The garden looks so green and lush! Looking in some directions, the leaves are taking on colour, but it still looks like late summer in this garden.
-
The fish are looking pretty, and continuing to act like they never get fed (they get fed So Much), but are right at the surface any time I go near the pond, because they have been trained by frequent feeding. 😂
While nibbling on his neck, I said, "This is what it would be like if we had a dog."
He replied: "You're way better than a dog!"
Now you know, folks. I'm BETTER than a dog.
Screenshot of a social media exchange:
S.: The LGBTQ+ Pride flag is made up of straight lines.
L.: No they're gay bars.
I was sitting on a bus bench.
This guy walked by with a rottweiler dog—a BIG version. The guy walked right by, but the dog plunked its big head right in my seated lap. No hesitation, more like, "I've arrived, sorry I'm late!"
"Hi!" said I. "You're lovely."
"What are you doing?!" snapped the guy to his dog as he dragged it off.
I know which of those two is better behaved in public.
It's too soon to speak of a trend, especially since there are 4 variables that have changed, but he says the nerves in his feet are reporting different sensations. Not normal ones, just different ones. We're hopeful that change might mean some neural regeneration, so walking gets easier?
And, his hair is growing back.
I do worry, now that we've lowered the chemo dose, that the tumour will grow again.
He's finally begun doing some of the things he wanted to do here. Paint. Feed the birds.
Just remembering different things about Australia.
For a warm break in winter, Aussies drive north.
The starry night sky feels like from another planet.
When the clocks spring forward or fall back, it's opposite to the Northern hemisphere, so a 2 hours jump.
Sunday sessions.
A beer fridge in the office that you may not put your lunch in.
They invented Rocky Horror over 50 years ago.
Every tree or bush smells like eucalyptus.
Beach, budgie smugglers and I'll stop at that pleasant thought.
-
He now has a prescription to reduce the chemo-induced pain and tingling in hands and feet (also known as neuropathy). Vitamin B6. The side effect of taking too much B6 is … neuropathy. 🤣
-
His subcutaneous port has been flushed. It took a bit of convincing because he wanted to wait until the next cycle, but 9½ weeks would be beyond the recommended 4-to-8 weeks.
-
The nurse explained all the new meds, clearly and patiently, until he was no longer confused. ❤️
-
Dinner was bubble and squeak, fried with lots of butter. Extreme yum. A diced salad of yellow pepper, tomato, and cucumber made it healthy.
-
A lovely day. No real arguments. Some cuddles. We looked after his hands and feet.
-
The scenery is spectacular in "rural" England.
-
He's not dead yet, and we're still enjoying England together.
-
I'd been wondering, but now I know how it will end, so I can stop wondering. The Hand Foot Syndrome (HFS) will worsen to Grade 3 HFS a few times over, the oncologist will permanently stop Capecitabine treatment, the tumours will grow/spread, the pain will return, and then it's palliative care.
-
We're only at Grade 2 HFS.
I guess today's #3GoodThings are relative.
I need to be persuaded that things will be OK, soon, because I'm tearful and feeling fearful.
Oh, I know! I'll list #3GoodThings. That'll help.
-
Dinner was salmon with dill, spinach salad, cooked by the guy who lives in our house, and a large glass of water.
-
My husband bought blueberries, two large bags the size of footballs, for freezing.
-
He also made cauliflower-broccoli soup for me.
Food = life. Cooking = care. Freezing = future.
I feel a bit better, now.
Are there #ThreeGoodThings today? Let's give it a try:
-
The guy who lives in our house is starting to get accustomed to me back in the house. From his perspective, I'm not back; I'm something new.
-
My husband lost it over the spray-washing company next door. The neighbours themselves weren't home and I talked him down.
-
Dinner was fantastic and included: coleslaw, steamed peas and carrots with butter, fried mushrooms, roasted peppers and zucchini (courgettes). He ate all his vegetables.
OK. #ThreeGoodThings
-
He says, "Thank you, Sweetie, for taking such good care of me" though I don't feel like it's a chore that needs thanks. It's an 'of course' thing.
-
The soles of his feet may be improving slightly, although his toes looked rough last night, like they might lose their skin.
-
He was pleased with the croissant I bought for his breakfast, and also had two bites of sausage. Glad he's eating because—I lied—I actually can see he's lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks.
-
At the current rate, we're going to make it past Christmas to this spring, and then we can look to our next anniversary in May.
-
Gotta start making him a Christmas present. I have some ideas.
-
I love him.
It looks like there will be even more Ham for the UK.
Clapham.
Eastham.
Nottingham.
Burnham.
It's the #CrownPrince himself, #AndyBurnham #Andy_Burnham of the #UK #LabourParty.
A survey by TV show HART VAN NEDERLAND (a long-running, news-like program) revealed in February that nearly a third of Dutch drivers have at some point found themselves in an "undesirable situation" as a result of following their navigation system that uses GPS and a digital map.
A small portion of them faced serious danger, driving into oncoming traffic, onto railway tracks, too close to water, as well as other risky situations.

I was wrong about the end. After the Capecitabine, there are further treatment options.
-
The blood tests came back marginally BETTER than last time.
-
He said, Thanks for looking after the logistics and being my hero.
