A7. Oh, wow, I had not even considered this… (I have been looking at VC-ing youth micro-startups locally.)

I live in a summer tourist town, with lots of bike activities.

• Mobile bike repair
• Cycle beverage and food carts/trailers
• Gardening/landscaping we already have, but moar?
• Grocery delivery would be year 'round, which would be great! if it works for youth. (Lotsa retirees.)
• Bike 'store' livery - building & renting mobile platforms.

A1a - I am posting from the damp, chilly #VancouverIsland where it feels like baked squash weather, although the sun just peaked out for the first time today.

A1b - Not in the slightest bit weird - Your care, your rules. A picture is a good way to engage your care providers, to start the conversation about your goals. You may not get 100% agreement, but you can certainly clarify your priorities.

A6. Yes! I put on gobs of sunscreen.

I spent a lot of years riding with as little clothing as I could get away with (no helmet, either), bleached hair and tanned.

And a few years ago I had an itchy spot on my back. A mole I had not known of. Yes, they removed it, no it was not melanoma, but it was considered only a step down from cancer.

They sent in a nurse to give me the lecture. Yes, that kind of nurse.

y'know, as long as I am feeling whingy, why is it #CBC can claim to be offering 'free' content, when you cannot get it without giving up privacy in exchange? That is not free, that is blackmail. Especially when #Canadian s have increasingly limited access to #CanCon, particularly #news / #journalism. If they want to restrict it to primarily #Canada, that is fine, just use IP filtering. Yes, some people will be able to sneak around and get their CanCon. Oh how terrible.

@ascentale@sfba.social @streetmeme@cycle.town @bikenite@fedigroups.social I currently ride or walk most times I am shopping in my town. There is a severe lack of convenient bike parking. My preferred grocer has parking for 4 bikes, and only one other grocer (of 7) has a bike rack at all. There are no bike lockers as far as I am aware. I have no idea how to address this with the businesses. But I do keep pointing to how many of the tourists arrive in town on a saddle via popular trails.

Today I discovered Mathpolate, which has a graphpaper generator for asymetric graph paper — https://mathpolate.com/graph/asymmetric

But when I intend to do something challenging I check everything thoroughly as a delaying tactic.

@mcc@mastodon.social One of many descriptions of #ADHD which I whole-heartedly endorse. ++, would tag important again.

@cwebber@social.coop The reality is M Zuckerberg never got through his undergrad before being encouraged [by whom?] to drop out and be a rich CEO instead of getting the training and experience to be a successful CEO. @theantlady@flipping.rocks @ascentale@sfba.social @edd@freeradical.zone Food was the thing I used to mess up the most. Not eating regularly/constantly. Later I got a more relaxed attitude. It was not about about the distance, but the ride. So I might complete 18-24 hours after starting, with stops at restaurants, going to a movie, wandering gardens… A century isn't hard if you are only riding a couple hours then walking/sitting for a couple.

One memorable one I *think* was some form of junk yard, which had a 'fence' built of welded bike frames. It may have been a gate, I did not stop to inquire.

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. No! but that is a recent change. I was gifted a bike which, alas, did not actually fit/work for me. Which led to purchasing 2 units which *do* suit my abilities and needs. And then for a few years that 'spare' bike sat. I had plans to donate it to a bike kitchen, but it never happened. A few months ago I finally found someone who would take it off my hands, and hopefully use it. Even if they part it, that is better than it sitting utterly unused. #BikeNite

@auscandoc@universeodon.com Yes. I have a laundry list of reactions I would like to see, including some knee-jerk ones because I get pissed. But the better choices are to use the work the USA has done to find Canada's pain points, and remove them from the USA's target list by finding them markets other than the USA. And reasonable, measured actions to balance extraction and processing inside Canada. A trio of them are silica→pure silicon, copper, and lithium.

@chris@socialbc.ca@MrLee@aus.social Okay, let's put it into my personal perspective: The program allows 3 hours of free electricity up to 24 KWh. My home is fully electric. Heating, cooling, hot water, and yes a home 220 volt outlet in the 'garage'. And a small collection of small computers running 24/7. Averaged across the whole of 2025 (with a whole lot of bread baking) we averaged 16.83 KWh per day. With enough storage, able to charge fast enough, my bill would be zero.

@enobacon@urbanists.social Huh. Where I lived in Minnesota, the landowners paid about 95% of the road costs within the city, less for county and state. There was a bit in grants, and a bit from the river port (Cargill, so you can guess how much less it was than actual cost to the city.) Different states, different methods of subsidizing the oil industry.

@MartinGuay@mstdn.ca I agree with some of the points you made, and I should have called those out - for which I apologize. Technology can scale exponentially. Solar energy is expanding as rapidly as a single-source tech can. Wind is expanding faster with more competition. And we are bending the GHG growth. But, on an energy consumption basis, we need to lean into degrowth imo. There are very large savings to be had, and new innovation and business opportunities to get them.

@david_megginson@mstdn.ca Post the rebellions, the Durham Report led to the Union of the Canadas, part of stated reform goals including to reduce the electoral impact of the French. The population differential was > 3:4 in 1841 in the remerged Canada Province, though excluding indigenous, metis, and most of rural Acadie. Many French were restricted from voting. The post-rebellion voting restrictions began being rolled back in 1848; the governing framework completed w/o their input.

@david_megginson@mstdn.ca It is always a matter of perspective. Jakarta has roughly the population of all of Canada at 42 million, with over 10 million in the city proper which is nearly exactly the same size as Toronto. Which, at nearly 7 million, is nearly half of StatsCan's estimated population for Ontario (16,136,480 Q1 2026) But a look at parliament shows Ontario did deliberately bias representation. That unfair distribution now works against the province, but is baked into the federation.

British Columbia Centre for Disease Control #BCCDC has good set of pages with information regarding #tick borne illnesses - https://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/tick-borne-diseases There are links to other resources including eTick.ca which uses your image of a tick to identify and report tick species: 82,014 reports of ticks on humans! @MartinGuay@mstdn.ca Because a bigger bonfire is better. #BC minister of energy admitted the province's endergy demands have been stagnant for a decade, despite rising EV adoption, massive increases in digital industries, home heating/cooling electrification, population/housing growth, and more. The reason: efficiency. The response: invite data centres, LNG to create demand, and propose 2 new hydro dams. That's dumb growth, not economic growth.

@deFractal@infosec.exchange @tezoatlipoca@mas.to @ocratato@discuss.systems Have you considered skipping the Canadian government just going to the First Nations? @MartinGuay@mstdn.ca Well, it certainly is economic growth! Aus. has hit the ball out of the park with home solar, storage, and free daytime electricity - non-industry energy demand forecasts are down everywhere, supply up.
