Video of #chatcontrol 1.0 voting yesterday 2026-07-09. 16 minutes: https://peertube.0011.lt/w/83aDfKbPL1LiFNaA668f96 Summary: 1) It starts with 2 MEPs pointing out procedural ~violations ("points of order") 2) Then it continues with important vote 314 vs. 276. 3) Then there was ~25 more votes on amendments. Was interesting to look through the patterns how Parliament groups vote. 4) And it finish with a lot of confusion at the end for 5 minutes about final vote. MEPs did not know what they vote exactly. Now it is a bit more clear after everything happened (which vote was most important? it was 1st), but when watching this drama live - situation was tense and unclear.

While the latest #ChatControl proposal didn't proceed to a vote, the proponents of the interception of all chat traffic will undoubtedly continue their efforts to get the law passed - like they have for years now. It will resurface shortly, disguised and modified but effectively pushing for the same end result: removal of end-to-end encryption. We must stay vigilant and continue to fight for our freedoms. #StopChatcontrol #privacy

@Tutanota@mastodon.social In the Netherlands we have an Archive Law an a Law Open Government which says that any and all messages to a member of parliament or government, whether digital or not, must be archived and be publicly available upon request. Deleting them is illegal. IDK if there is such a law for the EC and the EP. I hope there is. There should be. Under this law, any and all messages from lobbyists to EC/EP members would be public domain. If they want #ChatControl, I want their Whatsapp.
