Wale

In the spirit of @futzle@old.mermaid.town's cleanup hashtag, I'm gonna do one of my own, and get some extra cash by the end of the week hopefully.

Can deliver anywhere in Melbourne, as long as postage is covered beforehand - please send a private reply if you're interested in any of the items below!

Fixed up my website a bit this week and added a contact form - https://wale.au/contact, maybe I could add a portfolio page next.

@Stoori@polyglot.city @ganbatte@ohai.social @edgeofeurope@mastodon.social You got me interested in finding the actual song - it's apparently called "Nyt TPS" by Hannu Takala. It sounds like a fan song for the Finnish ice hockey (+ football, etc) team TPS.

Here's the song un-reversed!

Hello! I'm looking to #getfedihired as either a full-stack engineer, or an IT professional.

I have 3 years as a software engineer, one of which I also spent as a volunteer web developer & informal head of IT at @stra@aus.social (an org I also founded!).

If you have any roles available, preferably in Victoria or NSW (Australia), please let me know by DMing me in the replies.

Portfolio thread below.

Just arrived at Broadmeadows Library, was told that it was closed due to a staff member passing away after a car hit her.

Vale.

My attempt at a simple flowchart explaining the process of getting a concession Myki in Victoria. There may be some slight inaccuracies, but this is the *best* I could do.

Blog post soon :)

Hello, I'm looking for a new software / full-stack job in Australia (Melbourne, but willing to look at relocation elsewhere). I'm mainly experienced with Kotlin & Vue.js, alongside some skills with Python.

If you have any opportunities, please reply in a DM or email me (me@wale[.]id[.]au). I will send my CV on request.

Update: I bought the battery for the camera this was intended for, expecting to receive it tomorrow.

If this proves to not be a dud, I will get back to the replies and see how it goes.

Examples:

• https://stra.org.au - Vue 3 / Nuxt website I built for a not-for-profit (which I am also the president of)
• https://github.com/wale/gradle-tailwind - TailwindCSS plugin for the Gradle build system
• https://codeberg.org/Readconquista/gis_data/ - Python-based geographical manipulation for the Victorian libraries system.

@wongm@mastodon.social and the name changes of the user-facing entity are even worse.

• "Metlink" / "Viclink" (2003-2012)
• "Public Transport Victoria" (2009-2019, existed as a shell until 2025)
• "Transport for Victoria" (2018-technically present)
• "Transport Victoria" (2025-present)

Just saw this little tidbit from a 2015 @wongm@mastodon.social article, and this has aged pretty well, nearly 11 years later.

New blog post!

Here's my attempt at explaining the public transport concessions in Victoria.

Honestly this is to be expected from companies like Mullvad, like Proton and other 'privacy-friendly' companies. The reason why these companies end up "milkshake duck"-ing themselves is that the privacy-friendly product niche is propped up by leveraging people's anxieties, not too dissimilar from right wing parties' sentiments on immigration.

New blog post: "Nationalism, Populism & Data Privacy"

This post is my theory on the link between nationalism and data privacy.
