@gabrielesvelto@mas.to is what I always say when people ask me whether I’m worried about winter biking. Am I worried about falling over? Not very. Am I worried about falling under a truck? Very.

I thought that we'd discuss the Alberta referendum (the one on potential separation) in Pragmatics class in a few weeks, and wanted to look up the question text.
Which means I saw the other questions and HO BOY.

Made a fancy tart with the terrible plums. Which first involved making jam out of the terrible plums.
The jam is not even terrible, I’m just not a jam person. Colour is amazing.

My kohlrabi seed packet claims that kohlrabi is a good replacement for chocolate.
I can think of few food couplets that are LESS interchangeable. Flour and gherkins, maybe.

@AmeliasBrain@mstdn.ca not nearly enough non-tarragon! (spring onion, basil, dill, hard-boiled egg)
The crust is AMAZING and I just feel that the filling is a bit too intense and too much leaf.

I am currently listening to a recording from one of my research projects where the interviewee talks about his experiences at the Ile-a-la-Crosse residential school. It is horrifying.
The settlement won't undo what was done to him, but hopefully it will give him some financial stability.

@SnowyCA@social.vivaldi.net And that is where we run into the issue of "how big a deal is it". The number of children/pregnancies or having lived in Vancouver or not are relatively easy errors to spot and most of the time, the info there wouldn't put you at risk. (I can totally think of scenarios where it *would* put you at risk, though.)
But:
Wrong drugs or diagnoses can actually kill you, or do other severe harm to you. So ... say no when they ask if it's OK to transcribe automatically.

And yes, I think I'll have to do some bastardization of this recipe. Although also: if this had been part of my dinner rather than all of my dinner, it would have been fine.

@SnowyCA@social.vivaldi.net @DiverDoc@mstdn.ca @deborahh@cosocial.ca this also can be automated, with similar caveats.
I would be fine with automated transcription if a) I didn’t have data security concerns and b) if I knew that the medical personnel had enough time to check the transcript for accuracy. As things stand, neither seems to be the case.

@jfmezei@cosocial.ca @NunavutBirder@mas.to they are really well adapted to the cold: not only massive fluff for insulation, but also large body size to reduce heat loss through surface area. You can see that in the picture of the hare with its tiny ears (tiny for a hare, anyway)

@deborahh@cosocial.ca as someone with some exposure to the field: this is not surprising at all.
Drug names in particular are likely to run into the out-of-vocabulary problem simply because they are not very common in training data (and this is assuming that multiple people would pronounce "adalimumab" similarly enough to yield training data). (*and yes I know that this is not a drug name but the active ingredient in a bunch of drugs.)
Unsupervised use of automated transcription is hugely problematic.
