Multiple male colleagues editing a grant EOI, with each revision to the Diversity Statement getting progressively more gross with zero self-awareness.

"We will have a ~female~ ~volunteer~ ~undergrad~ ~administrative~ ~assistant~..."

Peer review always stresses me out way too much, and I end up obsessing and spending way too much time on a manuscript.

Just accepted a request to review a manuscript that seems to have different sections and analyses lifted from every chapter of my PhD, and yet makes no reference to any of my work despite it being...visible.

I don't think it *was* wholesale lifted, but it certainly looks inspired to the point that I am *baffled* there are zero references to my work. Nearly identical (but worse) methods, discussion points, theses, plots, even *workflow diagrams* from across all three of my published chapters.

When I first heard the news, I wondered if my old research station in Wenatchee was affected. Sure enough: Looks like the PNW Research Station is being shut down:

https://www.kuow.org/stories/forest-service-axes-most-research-stations-as-severe-fire-season-builds-in-pacific-northwest

These decisions are unfathomably stupid, being made by the worst byproducts of US capitalism. Whether they're grifters shilling for corporate interest or religious zealots using their apocalyptic dogma as a shield for their psychopathy...they all have a vested interest in seeing these stations and researchers shut down.

Literally my dream job would have been a permanent role at this station. I loved this place -- the people and the work and the city and the long-term studies being run out of here...they were all awesome. As good as it gets.

Anyway, check out a new paper from me and some of the fine folks of the PNW Research Station that just came out. It's a good one: https://doi.org/10.1071/WF25147

Forest Service axes research stations as severe fire season threatens Pacific Northwest

Forest Service axes research stations as severe fire season threatens Pacific Northwest

The U.S. Forest Service is shutting down research stations around the country, including centers in Portland, Seattle, and Wenatchee, Washington.

Can a dataset be a dataset if it has no data? 🤔

This is the second time I've found this once-in-a-lifetime find at an obscure booksale in the middle of nowhere. Certainly never expected to find it in Tasmania. IYKYK.

The Pynchon subreddit provides a constant, perhaps necessary reminder to please don't try to write like Pynchon unless you want to look like an absolute dorkass.
