A bit more context: I got this (expensive, but top notch at the time) LG monitor for a gaming PC, having always ran Windows for my gaming PCs. Given how much worse Windows became on 11, I vouched to move to Linux for gaming instead of "upgrading" to 11. I'm a tech person, who routinely uses MacOS and Linux for work and even FreeBSD for my home server, so nothing very daunting, but yet another sign of the "Windows is better for gaming" argument starting to crumble. That recent switch was the cause of the "oh no, gotta check my PC" moment when watching GN's video, shortly followed by a "ah, I'm safe" one for having switched to Linux. For gaming.

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net had a small scare because my trusty 6yo monitor is a LG one. But then I remembered I use Debian Linux, which, so far, doesn't install adware/malware when you plug a brand peripheral, nor when your motherboard vendor misuses a feature that should've been used for installing drivers.

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to I have the impression that you live in NL. If so, any tips on picking one? I'm more used to having trade specific ones, but here I went with "that one's the biggest" 🤷

Anyone with some experience in software has probably noticed this, but it was very well written, and topping it with the example on the finances around the problem (hopefully) make the idea approachable to the larger public.

@LineageOS aha! and so the mistery of "why isn't my device receiving weekly updates of late?" is resolved for me! I did some superficial searching and didn't find anything about the pause. But since I also didn't find any bad news, I thought it better to stay put for a while instead of bugging devs/maintainers about "where's my update?". Thanks for the good work!

@RyeNCode oh, how do you secure that exposed reverse proxy? (well, besides graylog, ofc) I have one where I just setup mTLS auth for non-local access. No log monitoring. No fail2ban or the likes... Am I asking for (too much) trouble?

@veronica it's Flatpak + backport for me. And I use my desktop mainly for gaming! For which you apparently need the latest and greatest packages, but not really, at least not from your distro.
