We are currently looking at Matrix to replace Mattermost. I got some feedback of institutions successfully using Matrix. What server implementations are you using? There are several options, with Synapse seeming a standard, but they also have a paid tier and we fear they will change license in the future just as Mattermost is doing now.
What are your recommendations regarding Matrix server implementations?
I am expecting migrating from one server to another server a major effort, so we should settle for the "right choice" now. Am I right here? Any experiences with switching Matrix server implementations?

Our faculty uses Mattermost heavily and many lecturer use it as the primary communication channel with students. Now Mattermost changes its licensing policy and it looks like we’ll have to switch to Teams.
Any alternatives for a self-hosted simple chat app? No need for end-to-end encryption, keeping chat history complete and intact is important.

@hanno it reminds me of the times when people were laughing at fuzzing. "What a waste of time and energy to throw random data at an app and expect it to find something useful!"
Then AFL came with a new insight: it could automatically measure progress and correlate that progress with a previous input.
This seems to a major ingredient for success, not only for vuln research: instrument an LLM to automatically determine progress and throw computing power at it.

Cans of worms everywhere, waiting to be opened by people taking shortcuts with LLMs.

Anyone here using other Matrix servers than Synapse for >1,000 users?

Man kann ja von Stallman halten, was man will. Aber LLMs hat er wenigstens noch nicht verwendet. /s
