“I feel sorry for Americans,” said B.C. Premier David Eby.
“If you can’t be friends with Canada, then you almost certainly do not have a friend anywhere in the world.
“And that is a very lonely place to be.”

I saw this little one person electric vehicle in a mall parking lot the other day and then again blocking traffic on a 60 km/h road nearby where I'm pretty sure the Ontario electric vehicle experiment doesn't allow them.
I wondered because I don't think there's any way to get to this mall legally in this – they're allowed on 50 km/h streets, and this mall can only be reached by a 60, a 70 and a shared use (bike) path.

@weirdestate@eigenmagic.net This house in Ottawa was once an ordinary bungalow, but a big room and fireplace was added to the front, and the decor is not something I can easily describe. I don't know what is holding up the middle of the old part, there used to be a wall. (Bonus challenge, try to find the basement stairs.)

Im not able to attach the picture right now, but I was impressed by the page that tells the rescuers where they can apply tools to lift the car. The safe lift points are tiny.
The entire bottom is not to be stressed, except out near the doors, and the four lift points are a very small fraction of that.

I hate dishwasher pills, and I hate unwrapping them, and I hate having to touch them while unwrapping them.

Of the food borne illnesses in the news I wondered what happened to good old fashioned ptomaine poisoning. Why isn't anyone getting the dreaded ptomaine poisoning any more?
Ptomaine is a generic term for decomposition products like cadaverine and putrescine, which are not particularly dangerous, it's the bacteria that makes people sick.

The wet bulb temperature, in contrast, is much more rigorously defined. You can measure the wet bulb temperature on your own:
Make a little fabric (muslin, traditionally) sock for the bulb of a glass thermometer. It has to fit tightly.
Attach a 1m string to the top of the glass thermometer.
Dip the bulb and sock in water that's at the ambient air temperature.
Whip the thermometer around your head a few times; record the temperature straight away.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you get a consistent measurement.
It's actually pretty hard to do it. You have to measure the temperature before the water evaporates, but after the bulb adjusts to the cooler wet bulb temperature.

@douglasvb@m.ai6yr.org I think a data center is a lot less flammable than a warehouse full of plastic toys. There is a server certification test that sets a propane torch inside a server cabinet with the requirement that all of the flames have to stay inside the case.

@ZachWeinersmith This is generally true except for the recipes (baking, usually) where the ratios are extremely important. Too little cream of tartar and the texture will be wrong, too much and it leaves a bad taste.
