Now I’ve seen several different slop-cloned design apps just this week 🤯

I’m all for free software! Creative folks shouldn’t need to pay out the nose for tools, especially now that we are competing with slop generators... Back in my youth you’d find a “cracked” serial number or use an educational discount to get the Adobe apps.

I do wonder how many of these cloned tools will be well-maintained and what it will ultimately do to standards and innovation.

I’ve been binge-watching Orphan Black this weekend with my partner, my first rewatch and her first viewing. What a great show!

This ProtonPass companion app for macOS fills some big feature gaps, things I miss about 1Password!

Going to test and report back 🔐

Echoing @stevestreza@indieweb.social

Apple doesn’t excite me anymore…

A handful of amazing native third-party apps, my investment in hardware, and laziness keep me in their ecosystem for now.

I do love my MacBook Pro M1 Max — largely due to refusing to upgrade to macOS 26 Tahoe 🙃

Apple still makes sexy luxury hardware but wow their software has mostly gotten worse year-after-year for the past 5-ish years and become a trap for their subscription services — I don’t hate most of their services but “pro” subscriptions always lead to upselling and enshittification of “free” offerings.

I don’t need Apple to be chasing “the next big thing” but giving a damn about user experience again might be nice while most of capitalism/tech feels like an accelerating greedy race to the bottom 💩

It’s always interesting hearing my younger friends who didn’t really experience the 1990s and early 2000s react to media of the era. I can’t imagine being a kid today.

There was still more mainstream queer phobic and sexist humor that didn’t age well but things did feel more optimistic and headed in a good direction.

Even being an environmentalist was still considered cool so we had kids shows like Captain Planet and Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Been working on my website again! I’m doing a major refactoring of the file structure and a new gallery layout for my portfolio.

I will always prefer a mouse that doesn’t need awful driver software or a wireless dongle…

I have a simple USB gaming mouse that I prefer over the more fancy or wireless ones I’ve owned.

A. I hate this. Glad I haven’t used Google Search as my default in maybe 5+ years now!

B. TechCrunch blocking ad blockers and being an awful reading experience is depressing. Google’s AI scraping will probably kill most of that ad revenue 🙃

:linux:💻 I’m going to install Linux (Bazzite GDX or a similar distro) on a Lenovo Yoga C940 my partner has lying around.

My motivation is to have a secondary travel laptop—my heavy 16” MacBook Pro sucks to lug around for long.

Between Penpot, Figma, and Affinity (via Wine) I should be able to do most design essentials.

Fun excuse to tinker with Linux more!

Anyone know of a guide on how to migrate a Build Awesome (11ty) site to Forgejo from GitHub? I somehow got stuck on the SSH auth setup last I tried 😭 I may just need to try again with fresh eyes.

I've been deploying to Neocities with GitHub Actions thanks to @sophie@social.lol's great guide. I'm sure Forgejo actions will also be a sticking point so any tips here would be awesome. https://localghost.dev/blog/how-i-deploy-my-eleventy-site-to-neocities/
