@zzt@mas.to the wayland people, also, believe that one program trying to communicate with another should be punished by driving to your house and killing you with a hammer
hmm

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space @mxchara@cyberpunk.lol @zzt@mas.to i moved to linux not because I believe it's a superior operating system (in many ways it is dumber than NT), but because I believed that it's design and culture at least gave the tools and responsibility to make my own choices.
unfortunately, they want so badly to be a corporation even when they aren't literally being funded and staffed by one that there is increasingly less difference
I made this over the past 2 days. 1276 triangles. enjoy

@zzt@mas.to what is it that Brodie actually does? there was a period where all youtube wanted to show me was him shouting at his microphone in his bedroom?

@zzt@mas.to @rootwyrm@weird.autos I've been saying it for a couple years. entire linux ecosystem is dominated by a couple big corpo gorillas and their projects exist to supplant pre-existing ones they do not control
Replying to
@soc@chaos.social @zzt@mas.to @rootwyrm@weird.autos Wayland and GTK, Gnome and systemd.
Wayland kills all small desktop environments and independent window managers, funneling everyone towards Gnome, GTK forces environment-agnostic applications to become gnome specific applications via libadwaita, systemd absorbs every key service running off screen.
the end goal is basically that linux becomes an IBM controlled monolith that you're allowed to look at source code to, if you really really want

@quinn@social.circl.lu for decades your TV overwhelmingly presented an affluent white suburban middle class to be the normal way everyone lives. It took a very long time for media with a different perspective to reach us in any volume

@zzt if your usb devices randomly disconnect, add usbcore.autosuspend=-1 to the end of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT then run sudo update-grub and reboot. if you don't use grub then idk do the equivalent of that for the systemd bootloader i guess
get permanently'd

@navi @soc @zzt @rootwyrm It's absolutely true, and "just rewrite your entire window manager, which was feature complete and has as such not had a major code commit in 25 years" is not a rebuttal. You're a dumbass if you think it is.
Nobody has time for that, and the wayland spec emperors (they aren't developers, they expect everyone else to implement their deliberately featureless design for them) know that. They know the manpower isn't there and they see it as a feature.

@errant@mastodon.sdf.org @davidgerard@circumstances.run yeah this is broadly speaking, the right answer. anything from the 80s that says "quartz lock" on it is going to be a better bet than any new thing with a USB port on it
This is a real GNOME patch note

@scien@social.linux.pizza @soc@chaos.social @zzt@mas.to @rootwyrm@weird.autos Sounds like you don't understand the manpower requirements of moving a DE from X11 to something like WLroots. It's essentially a complete rewrite, even before we get into the matter that wayland's spec doesn't implement basic shit like global hotkeys or screen capture, which every DE then has to come up with their own way of achieving, because Wayland is Policy Not Mechanisms, and the Policy is No.

@eestileib @tk @quinn my point was more in line with what Quinn was saying, in that america is covered in desperate poverty that was for years kept hidden from the wider world, not that you like walking five minutes to buy a bottle of milk
