@billyjoebowers@mastodon.online "is worth" can often usefully be edited to "is worthless."

@Bronwyn@sfba.social Candles? That's a Scandinavian thing, lots of candles. Less Scandinavian perhaps, but strings of lights too.

@jerrygoff@mstdn.plus Well past time, I would say. If Biden had been spouting any of nonsense Trump trots out daily then the Republicans in Congress would've gone hoarse shouting about the 25th amendment.

@JohnAutry@mindly.social Ah, haven't thought of the dBs in a month of Sundays, thanks! One of those great bands that I guess didn't really break through commercially...

@contrapunctus@fe.disroot.org Scripts using rm have potential issues you might not run in to with using rm interactively. Unfortunately I've learned that from experience.

@KanaMauna@sauropods.win @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Blue Oyster Cult, Foreigner, Billy Joel several times, Linda Ronstadt, Gordon Lightfoot.. off the top of my head. Oh, America too. Salt Lake City had plenty of big names visit then, and there were several classic rock stations on the radio too. ...now away from the Wasatch front it could well have been a different story. A few years later SLC had an excellent new wave radio station too, but that is 80s territory.

@pa@hachyderm.io @NoMachine@mastodon.social You mean something that can manage a GUI? ssh of course can manage command line things, nothing else needed. On the few occasions I've wanted a GUI on a remote servers I've installed some flavor of VNC (probably tightvnc, but you have choices) and tunneled that over ssh. It's been adequate for casual stuff, at least.

@Sustainable2050@mastodon.energy "Less" isn't "none" -- traditional dishes like yellow split pea soup with a little ham: it is a Swedish traditional dish, no doubt from the days when Red Meat Every Freakin' Day just wasn't an option for most people. It's delicious and quite filling.

@munin@infosec.exchange When our dodgy washing machine dies I'm wondering if there will be any old fashioned, just wash the damn clothes washers still available. No firewall rules, no firmware upgrades, no malarkey!

Tim McMullan is particularly good in those later episodes -- and he's taking a turn on PBS now in Marble Hall Murders, from a book by Anthony Horowitz, who created the Foyle's War series!

@AndiBarth@muenchen.social Unless you're really pressed for space on the backup medium, I'd take the simple approach and back up everything -- except swap files, if you are using swap files instead of a swap partition.

@scottjenson@social.coop Yes! You're watching the Emma Peel years? The earlier series with Honor Blackman is good too. The post-Peel seasons had their moments, but maybe not at the same level..

@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social I'm sure he fancies himself Oliver Cromwell II, after Mad Orange's reign is finally over, but I'm guessing he'll be more like Richard Cromwell.
