I've been building my latest side-project on @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de, but the git operations are distractingly slow - sometimes double that of GitHub. Still beats actually using GitHub!

Building on my own Forgejo instance, and pushing to Codeberg when it's ready to publish might be a great DX improvement.

My Pebble is finally here 🙌

Unfortunately, it arrived at 10am, so I need to do a whole day's work before I can play with it 🥲

If this is how my Monday starts, then this is going to be a good week! 🥳

The problem with being on the Security team at a conference is you're terrified to check your email in case there are some shoulder surfers around who catch a glimpse of an unreleased vulnerability 🙈

Now leaving Athens tired but fulfilled. A great time at @djangoconeurope@fosstodon.org, catching up with friends old and new, talk given and ticking some sights off the bucket list 🙌

20% of talks mentioned Tasks, which still feels crazy - I can't believe the community response ❤️

Until next time...

This is getting out of hand, now there are 3 of them!

With 0.12.0 of django-tasks, the DB and RQ backends are now in their own packages and repositories - making the separation between the interface and flagship backends clearer.

First run through of my @djangoconeurope@fosstodon.org talk is looking pretty good, and hitting the timings almost perfectly.

A few tweaks, and it'll be ready - 13 whole days early!

It's been a long time since I've sat down to write, and stay in the flow.

2 hours and over 3000 words later, I feel more accomplished than I have in a while 🥳

It should probably have a review pass though. Coming soon!

Cloudflare silently added opt-in support for respecting the Vary header! Welcome to 1997 internet, Cloudflare!

https://developers.cloudflare.com/changelog/post/2026-07-02-vary-for-cache-rules/

Hoping this simplifies a lot of caching rules (and some funky worker deployments too)!

The @wagtail@fosstodon.org security team no longer accepts GPG-encrypted reports.

GPG adds a lot of burden to manage, and it's just not worth it for us.

I'm not the biggest fan of AI at the best of times, but the recent unnecessarily hostile drama against the author of Booklore (a tool I fell for hard a few weeks ago) honestly makes me kinda embarrassed to call myself a "self-hoster" 🙈

I hope the fork gains some traction, and the author gets some well-needed internet-free time

On this, a grey Thursday morning, a new version of django-tasks is released! 🎉✨

Highlights include:
- Separate return value and exception attributes for task results
- Task and TaskResult are now immutable
- Task enqueued and finished signals

And more!

I spent half an hour this afternoon wondering why the switch I'd just installed didn't work.

Turns out I'd wired it wrong on the first attempt, tripped the RCD, and I hadn't noticed everything downstairs was off when I checked different configurations.

That's enough DIY for me for today.

Why does every project now need to be "for agents"?

Opening a port? Better make it for agents! https://github.com/vercel-labs/portless

If your agent can use the tools you already have which are designed for good "human" UX, it's probably not an agent worth using.

Cleared out my car today ready for selling. This is what I found:

- Multiple wooden sporks
- A Lidl receipt from 2022 (just after I bought it)
- 2 unopened bags of M4 bolts
- A roll of wrapping paper
- A roll of dog poo bags
- 3 broken coathangers

I need to deep clean my car more often... 🙈

Modern Standby (s2idle) claims another victim.

Bought a Thinkpad E14 G7, but was surprised with the battery life. Turns out it drains around 40% when asleep for 12 hours.

Firmware only supports s2idle (no S3 sleep), which isn't suitable for my usage pattern.

Refund it is 😔 Maybe I'll hold off and get a Framework later in the year. At least they're known to support real S3 sleep!

A quick fix and some manual prunes later, and my backups are 130GB lighter 🙌
