RE: https://mas.to/@mgeist/117003562914619560 Remember, day one of Mark "Elbowless" Carney Government he cancelled the DST (Digital Service Tax). Now he has cancelled the funding of Canadian broadcasting monopoly profit by US cartel, but put the taxpayers on the hook instead. 600M$ And I was called extremist by the genocidal fuck from Mont-Royal because I opposed the online-streaming bill... #cdnpoli

The government's Online Streaming Act court filing confirms what it wouldn't say publicly: not just the CRTC's 15% decision but the 5% base contribution is being eliminated, with taxpayers on the hook for $600M to cover the costs. A full reset is coming. https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2026/07/starting-over-court-filing-confirms-the-crtcs-streamer-contribution-decisions-are-dead-with-a-full-online-streaming-act-reset-to-come/

A multi-million subs YouTuber who is pointed at by a former employee that said "while I work to pay his 3rd house I'm not sure I can even afford one" purchased a private jet. This is exactly what exploitation means.

RE: https://mas.to/@mgeist/116686665537759772

Our politicians have so much courage. They pass bills written by lobbies, and then have other lobbies forcing the opposite. And then the taxpayers (ie us, not the lobbies) have to foot the bill. For something we said was a bad idea, but called anyone opposing it extremist.

(this is not even partisan)

Replying to

@deimoshall@mastodon.social @barthalion@social.treehouse.systems the thing that waste time is not the reviews, it's fending off the abuse from the sloppers. Getting threats by email through anonymous remailer. Getting told that it's unfair to label AI slop "I reviewed it all -- generated by Claude", or even spamming your repo because their account was blocked so they use a puppet one (blocked too) So if you want to really get onto that, be my guest. I will also not try to second guess reviews.

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world as I always said, had that whole thing been about a pipeline or other Govt sponsored ecocide, the whole invasion would have been stopped day 2 at the latest, and not with the velvet gloves that were taken. Not even invoking the emergency measure act for which the PM got shit for. And they would have all been charged with some terrorist charge and real jail sentences. But this was just an insurrection attempt. no biggie, It didn't threaten the oligarchs.

If you wonder how good Microsoft is at security, Microsoft SharePoint defaults everything to plain text HTTP, and setting up HTTPS is a PITA (without counting certificates) causing obscure 500 errors.

@deimoshall@mastodon.social @barthalion@social.treehouse.systems and then maybe you'll delete your account like that other admin that did, and the only reason I learned about it is because I correlated, not because I got told (they were not on Matrix either, so I couldn't even guide them on what to do or not). And yes people are free to do whatever, but sometime it's good to at least people know.
