@ricmac@mastodon.social @cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family this week i literally found a website that had a full blown photo gallery entirely as base64 encoded images. the entire website was a single html many megabytes in size.

@WTL@mastodon.social I really like when a bridge is used, when I send them a message and they can answer back. If it’s purely one way, it’s not interesting.

If you met @chastell.net then this is the read: https://pragtob.wordpress.com/2026/04/12/remembering-piotr-chastell-szotkowski/
a beautiful homage written by our friend, the one and only @PragTob@genserver.social
it seems insane to me that people try reading someone’s gender just based on their hair colour
i guess reflecting on it, hairstyle has been a proxy for gender way before people started dying it neon colours
if you read someone’s gender just based on their hairstyle you’re perpetuating stereotypes

@Dianora@ottawa.place @theashtonstarr@mastodon.social we do have a bike clinic, I post about them in https://ottawabybike.ca/calendar/ - I recommend checking out ReCycles https://ottawabybike.ca/communities/re-cycles/

@the5thColumnist@ottawa.place nuclear is in a completely different ballpark than oil and coal. the carbon footprint of nuclear power is significantly lower than even solar energy.
it’s interesting that the costs are higher, but not by a lot, and it’s also much more reliable since works 24/7.

@plexus@toot.cat this is a really good point. when I had my own company I made sure we had no debt. when I joined a large corporation, I was genuinely humbled after seeing how much debt they can get away with.
drawing on the tool angle too, it’s good to remember compounding interest. this corporation was definitely paying the cost.

@alicetragedy IKR! a friend was recently telling me how much he likes travel agencies just for the fact that they take care of all details for you. I think there is something about “not being responsible”, and the decision fatigue that comes with it.

@cassey I'm really sorry for the tone this conversation had, I'm reflecting out loud on sensitive topics. I appreciate you sharing the article, it's a truly reflective and well written piece. Also appreciate the respectful discussion.
I will re-read the essay and try see it from your perspective.

he said “you guys are treating me like a criminal!” and the cop was like “well, I don’t mean to name you names, but you ARE being arrested right now” 🔥

@cassey I mean it as in their looks, you explained how you use queer coding as a way to tell queer people apart, but there’s nothing inherently queer about queer coded things. society just decided that. you could be queer without showing any of those things externally.
i see fragile masculinity as a fear that attitudes outside of your genders comfort zone will deprive you of your identity.
this is the same, when we feel the need to be X coded, we project our bias that X means Y.
lately I've been thinking a lot about the limits of human perception, and how our inherent biases shape the way we see the world https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b1LvthBs5w

@ooze@cathode.church that’s some really good context. I think I read somewhere that, in some contexts, we’re trending towards AI alone being better at diagnoses than AI + Human, due to bias reducing accuracy.

@cassey I’m really happy that you found a way of being that makes you comfortable, that’s what we all deserve.
has it happened to you that you meet someone queer but you didn’t know at first, not by their looks or attitude, but after talking to them you knew it deeply that they were queer? and you go huh..
that difference is the projecting that i’m talking about. we all implicitly put people in these categories, and we perpetuate that when we start thinking in terms of those categories too.

@the5thColumnist@ottawa.place what do you mean? obsolete as in the wrong type of nuclear, or just using nuclear as a whole?
Replying to
@cassey I’ll re read it, but purely going of your toots, embracing the idea that “societal roles are just the way they are” (by starting to embody those roles through your physical appearance) seems pretty much “you beat them or you join them” kind of defeatist attitude of just embracing genders because CIS people have been role playing their whole lives and we want to role play too.

@zzt your whole thesis is that if we want to be in solidarity we should do nothing , while also acknowledging that the field in the database is basically a form of doing nothing. I like seeing the field as a form of plausible deniability, we done our job! — I believe there’s ways to interpret the current happenings in a light that’s much more aligned with your values, maybe take some time to try see it that way.
