This. Yes.
I'll also go further and add that if the only way to access whatever website/account is via a "smartphone", then you're likely locking out a lot of seniors, and definitely a lot of disabled folks (visual impairment, folks w/ tremor, and others).
And I'm looking at all of you in the medical and dental professions: your contracted tech svcs are locking out your patients.
Quoting
I’m gonna need everyone in security to internalize this.
Hell, my local country fair (y’know, the place where you can submit your veggies to go on display and get judged and get ribbons and shit) is requiring online registration.
Guess how many people that’s locking out? How many of the people whose submissions are what keep the exhibitions going don’t have emails or cell phones?
If your solution doesn’t work for my friend who can only be reached via landline phone or mail, it doesn’t work.

Bravo. Brilliant answer to your kid. Not only did you get to the answer, but you modeled how to think. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats!
I can hear the 911 calls now: "help! My friend is down and desperately needs an early American novel explained. It's a matter of life and death!"
No longer is "Robin" a mere sidekick to Batman. Now ROBIN is a literature and EMT Superhero!

Oh, double thanks, Kate B! And hello, Kate S!
I'm definitely going to look into your work on rumours as collective sensemaking.
Very fortunate timing for me. I was just starting to think through some communications dynamics in Ostrom's rules for successful commons. This should help.

Agreed. And there's also a yawning gap between what people think is measured and reported by Altmetric scores and what is actually happening. And most of these people purport to be educated themselves. SMDH.
