Then don’t be that guy. You’re quoting a Zionist source that is desperately trying to redefine Zionism in real time. Zionism is colonizing Palestinian land and building that joke of a country on top of it. Zionism is a colonization project.
(And no, all Jews are not Zionists, but the Zionists are very happy to try and conflate the two as much as possible.)

Another one bites the dust - GrapheneOS defends use of AI for coding
cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/51749088
GrapheneOS is currently defending its use of AI coding tools on Mastodon against complaints by various accounts claiming to be users.
We do not understand where you’re coming from or why you’re so incredibly angry with us. It’s not justified and does not make sense.

he started saying many years ago, the US shouldn’t give a nickel to Israel. And he called out the war, Netanyahu, all the woman and children dying…?
None of that is relevant when he keeps qualifying it with “but Israel has the right to defend itself” – no it fucking doesn’t. Israel doesn’t even have the right to exist. It’s just a colonial outpost on stolen Palestinian land.

The Elimination Project: Israel’s Dismantling of Palestinian Life in West Bank

Summary from World-Outlook:
This is the executive summary of the “Elimination Project: Israel’s Systematic Dismantling of Palestinian Collective Life in the West Bank.” The Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem released this report on September 14, 2026. “At the time of publication, the West Bank is under a sweeping Israeli assault that is systematically and at an accelerating pace dismantling the foundations of Palestinian existence,” the report says in its opening. It provides a comprehensive, historical outline of the systematic effort by the Israeli government and its entire repressive apparatus to eventually cleanse the occupied territories, and perhaps even Israel proper, of all Palestinians.

But the way he talks and acts, I strongly doubt that’s his opinion
Then why is he constantly spouting it in public where everyone can hear him and be convinced that yes, that is his opinion that the Palestinians wouldn’t be genocided if they just rolled over and let Israel take everything from them
And you can’t draw any conclusions from that.
Course you can. The conclusion is that he’s a Zionist.
and something should be done about it. Back then it was reallocate the money that goes towards Israel and give it to the people in Gaza (as humanitarian aid)
The thing that should be done about it is to call for the dissolution and revocation of recognition for the Zionist identity. He’s not doing that, he’s not coming even close to that or to expressing his support for the Palestinian people to have control over (all of) their own land. Lip service is what he’s doing to maintain the illusion that he’s “leftist”, and lip service doesn’t do a damn thing.

I’m not blaming him at all for this? I’m glad he’s taking this stand.
I’m saying he’s been ineffective (and also outright disappointing, like his pro-Zionist stance) in bringing about any kind of useful change because the establishment keeps him (and AOC, and probably eventually Zohran Mamdani too, as much as I’m loath to admit it) around as a sort of controlled opposition/progressive figurehead to show that they’re not all that bad when they absolutely in fact are just the other side of the same coin.

You’re committing the blunder of alienating your allies.
It was “STEM bros” that continued to champion generative AI and make it possible for it to become the planet-sized threat it has turned into now. It was “STEM bros” that consistently belittled the concerns of those in the arts and the humanities when they were warning against what their creations were doing. It was “STEM bros” that kept telling everyone they were making a big deal out of nothing, that the environmental effects were overblown, that it’s a whole lot of fearmongering.
They are not allies to those of us, in STEM and in other disciplines alike, that have been trying to hold the line against generative AI from the start. For them to turn against it now that it’s suddenly infringing on their careers is self-serving and while I do not begrudge their support I will sure as hell not genuflect and thank them for it.

That’s not what that’s about. “Avoid instant replies” means you shouldn’t feel the need to drop everything and immediately reply to every message you get. Some things can be left for later. The people who matter will understand, and the people who don’t understand don’t matter.
