ahem, so openbsd's luanti package was compiled against luajit. now, openbsd only packages luajit 2.1 meaning it doesnt have the completely overhauled luajit 3.0 heap allocator and gc, leaving it with essentially the 5.1 allocator and gc. the 5.1 allocator is hard limited to 2gb of memory because lua is mostly just a toy language and luajit fails to run the gc when it hits an oom scenario meaning if it hits the heap limit between gc runs it immediately crashes, sending me back to the main menu
now, luanti games and mods are defined in lua so theres absolutely no manual memory management option available, this means that memory intensive mods like mcl_mapgen_core use a pretty large chunk of the heap. if we put 2 and 2 together that means: yea i cant fucking play mineclonia
