If I don't keep my car roadworthy and crash into yours, it hasn't gone "rogue", it's my negligence and I'm responsible. If my dog attacks you, I am liable. There are no rogue AIs, just negligent AI companies. Prosecute them.

Confidence in Big Tech Continues to Slide https://news.gallup.com/poll/712436/confidence-institutions-remains-near-time-low.aspx#:~:text=Confidence%20in%20Big%20Tech%20Continues%20to%20Slide
Confidence in large technology companies has fallen steadily from the 32% recorded when Gallup first included it on the list in 2020; today’s 20% rating brings it to a new low.

Counsel for Meta now tugging at our heartstrings at how over-regulated they are, and how mean it is that different territories have different regulators, when all they want to do is bring people together and enable a Brotherhood of Man. I'm worried that my laptop might short-circuit in this sudden outpouring of lachrymosity.

Microsoft admits it force-installed AI-powered OneDrive on Windows 11, says it’s not training on your faces (really) https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/08/07/microsoft-admits-it-force-installed-ai-powered-onedrive-on-windows-11-says-its-not-training-on-your-faces-really/ So, that's OK then. You didn't want that storage space, did you?

What has happened to me? A lobbyist acquaintance from Trumpistan asked to pick my brains on the differences between the EU and UK tech regulatory regimes, and I've just expounded for 30 mins on the theme. What have I become? I should have learned React so I could make iOS Crypto Apps or games to sell cigarettes to children in the global South.

It's nice to see folks from Opera and Brave adding their support to our request to be able to use WebAPK minting for better PWA installation on Android. Once again, Vivaldi is happy to be leading the way & fighting for a better web for all. https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/543049061

I'm always delighted when a new regulator contacts us to ask questions about the villainy of Big Tech, but -by Darwin!- it takes an age to gather all the info together. Just another 5 Qs to go…

At @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net we want the web to be the application platform of choice. So to make PWAs more "native" on Android, I filed an interoperability request with Google under DMA article 6(7) to make WebAPK minting available to all browsers. Hopefully this will be uncontroversial, given that our chums in Mountain View stated that "We are committed to making this available to all browsers on Android", other browsers want it too, and we all 💕 PWAs and the open web. https://issuetracker.google.com/u/1/issues/543049061

Counsel for Google is telling a heart-rending tale of woe on the stage. Apparently, the UK regulator can impose more conduct requirements in the future, which means that product teams don't know what they can or can't do in UK, and this makes them sad. I'm not a lawyer, but perhaps they could try to stop shitting on competitors in UK?
