i feel like jury duty in the US is very very broken

(explainer for those outside of the US:) how the system is supposed to work is that if X person has a trial, names are randomly drawn from a list of all the citizens in X person's area to be in the jury.

the thing is... my partner is older than me and yet, has not once been selected for jury duty. whereas i seem to get my name drawn every year or so.

and others have noticed this oddity too. if it were based on luck, there would be a LOT less discrepancy

i figured out what happened.

on the website, i selected size 11 in the first menu, selected the shoes i wanted. add to cart

it turns out that if you dont select a size a second time, after choosing the shoes, and right before adding to cart, it defaults to the smallest shoe they have (which is size 6).

that feels like really bad website design.

and its a two week trial, so, unless i wanted to commute 40 hours each day (literally impossible), id need to get a hotel for two weeks

soooo... now i need to go through the process of proving to them that its not possible for me to attend
