Clocks timer test: switch to another app to ensure notification · 5ceda6c9d4

Since https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-clocks/-/merge_requests/371 Clocks does not show a notification when a timer expires if the app is focused. That's why the test has been failing forever. This tweaks the test to launch and switch to another app when the timer is counting down, so we sho...

recently in #fedora qa: lots of needle updates and minor test tweaks for GNOME 51 and anaconda changes: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/commits/branch/main

sorry, no exhaustive breakdown, it's been too long (I was out for a lot of friday, monday was a public holiday, and I've had some family medical stuff to deal with today). but that's mostly what I've been doing!

today in "random good news":

today's #fedora #rawhide and branched (F44) composes were both perfect (no failed artifact builds at all) and each took less than 90 minutes. that includes producing over 100 (114, for Rawhide) images.

I remember when composes failed all the time, individual images failed all the time, and composes took up to 8 hours, so this is pretty cool!

great job everybody!

help me, German, I need a loan word: that feeling you get when you open a new firefox tab and type a URL snippet to open a page, but while it's open you briefly see a junk story you secretly want to read, so you open a new tab again but the junk story list has changed and the one you hated yourself for wanting to read is gone, and now you feel both frustrated and guilty

Then they closed the source so they can go make lots of money. I'm more interested in https://github.com/The-PR-Agent/pr-agent . That's a similar story - Qodo also started out open source then closed up shop - but they at least are allowing 'The Community' to actively develop the original F/OSS codebase from the point they forked it. @hyc@mastodon.social @Edent@mastodon.social what makes Make "plain" and cmake or ninja "flavor of the month", aside from your familiarity bias? If you are starting software development from scratch, ninja or meson or cmake can make a lot more sense to you than gnu make. cmake has existed since 2000 (and been used by e.g. kde since 2006), ninja has existed since 2012 - that's 13 years - and meson has existed since 2013; meson/ninja are used for such minor projects as GNOME and Chrome. perhaps rethink your "month" definition.

today in #fedora qa:
* reported fmf-tests not reporting results for the f44 beta candidate - https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/fmf-tests/issues/6
* did some investigation of the xdg-desktop-portal-gnome failed startup bug (it caused some #openqa test failures) - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2440238#c7
* more work on ELN desktop live tests, it is turning into a bit of a slog - https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/fedora_openqa/pulls/122#issuecomment-557253

Fix test run / wiki report for candidate composes

We have the first candidate compose for Fedora 44 Beta, but there seem to be no results from this tool in [the Cloud results page on the wiki](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_44_Beta_1.1_Cloud). It looks like either the test triggering or the wiki reporting doesn't work for can...

today in #fedora qa:
* added the checkwiki CI step to os-autoinst-distri-fedora too - https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/pulls/497
* tested ai-code-review with #gemini 3.1 pro a bit, works fine, hard to tell if it's better
* sent an MR to make 3.1 pro the default - https://gitlab.com/redhat/edge/ci-cd/ai-code-review/-/merge_requests/76
* started work on testing #eln desktop lives in #openqa - scheduler bits in https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/fedora_openqa/pulls/122 , started work on needle updates, will continue tomorrow

Fedora Forge

Add checkwiki step to CI workflow

As we did in fedora_openqa, add a step that checks out both repos and runs checkwiki. If fedora_openqa repo has a branch with the same name as the branch for the pull request, it uses that branch, so we can co-ordinate PRs that need changes in both places. Signed-off-by: Adam Williamson <aw...

@postmodern not sure tbh. I've never run it in podman, it's usually run in mock...it may not work in a container, not really sure.

@postmodern you want the f43 branch of the fedora-kickstarts repo. the kickstarts are there. for f44+ security is built with kiwi, though. livecd-creator has not been used for any official images for many years. before kiwi, livemedia-creator was used. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/creating-and-using-a-live-installation-image/#proc_creating-and-using-live-cd should be more or less correct instructions.

@hughsie@mastodon.social @coderabbitai@mastodon.social old coderabbit repo, now archived: https://github.com/coderabbitai/ai-pr-reviewer . you can rewind a few commits to get rid of the 'closing up shop' ones and see what it looked like. I don't know if there are any actively-developed F/OSS forks.

@vathpela@infosec.exchange sure, I have no idea about Boston-area specifics, was just noting that "luxury studios" are absolutely a real thing and they're not great for housing affordability. I've no idea whether these are those, though.

@Fishd @patnat Because it's not safe. Traditional package updates are inherently unsafe operations, but the more Other Stuff is running on the system when they run, the less safe they are. The safest thing is to have as little Other Stuff running as possible when doing the update, hence the offline update default. Desktops are especially prone to crashing in the middle of the update and taking it with them. Online updating is always possible, but we default to the safest available choice.

@vathpela@infosec.exchange eh, I know what they mean. It's a small unit with high-end finishes and nice appliances, intended to be bought and rented out as an airbnb. Vancouver was stuffed with them from 2012-2022 (approx). Something like https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/30231612/116-5212-cambie-street-vancouver . Definite real estate boom stuff.
