I'll just copy my #introduction post

I'm new to social media.

If I had the choice between getting 10 k followers, or 1 friend, I'd pick the friend. So, if you want to talk about a topic I post about, then let's talk.

I like #Aerospace (mostly the #Space), #VideoGames, #OpenSource, #Urbanism, #Electronics, and #Indie art (e.g., #GameDev, #Writing, #FanFiction, #Illustration, etc.).

I also like "tone indicators", and Markdown.

I won't be posting anything that could be used to identify me.

@flipper @occult I wish "496 trusted partners" was a joke, but that's a suprisingly accurate number, IIRC.

@signalapp It seems the replies are mostly criticism, which I understand, but look at it this way: there's yet another way to install Signal, one that's well supported within Microsoft's ecosystem. Updating through infrastructure that's as trusted as your OS is a good thing. Look at what happened with notepadnotepad++: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZAKvsIfxrs

The Notepad++ Situation Is Crazy

RE: https://mastodon.neat.computer/@jonah/116455673652355215

This quote is out of context. It's supposed to be prefaced with:

"…if as a society we conclude that… age-verification… is both necessary and inevitable…"

They also specify that:

• It should be done client-side
• The "age signal" should be binary.
• It should only be required for social media, porn, etc.
• The age signal should be e2ee & anonymized
• The entire system should be open-source.

@privacyguides@mastodon.neat.computer I'm disappointed that you would boost this. 7 words is not enough.

I'm not all that interested in astronomy, but this is pretty exiting. I hope Roman immediately produces a beautiful wallpaper like JWST did. Scientific data is… also cool.

That article is from last year. Trump's budget was rejected, [^1] and Artemis 4 & 5 have since been funded [^2] (but the first moon landing is now Artemis 4 [^3]). This isn't to say that Trump's proposed NASA budget didn't do significant damage, though. [^4]

Wait, it was an upper stage failure? That's nice to hear. I was worried that reusing the lower stage was being problematic, but it might just be that Blue Origin needs more experience in orbital launches.

Blue Origin just successfully reused the lower stage of their heavy-life launch vehicle. The engines were new and some of the avionics were upgraded, but it's still really exciting. Especially since they landed it again.

I can't wait to see what kind of impact this will have on the launch market.

When will the Artemis program have done enough to have a book written about it? And how long will it take for the details of those accomplishments to trickle down to the authors?

@jonah@mastodon.neat.computer @privacyguides@mastodon.neat.computer I think those are all good concerns, and you have a fair stance on the issue. Your criticism of Proton may or may not be warranted, depending on whether self-attestation counts as verification. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to criticize you. The reason I quoted your post was because I expect better from Privacy Guides. I expect a nuanced breakdown (like your reply to me) from them.
