Viking Chieftain
@VikingChieftain@mstdn.social
Just an armchair chieftain trying to make sense of world politics and conflicts. 100% pro-Ukraine, 100% pro-democracy.
Born and raised in Sweden. Exported to Canada. Lived about half my life in Canada. I love both countries.
The profile picture is a replica of a Viking helmet. And no, the Vikings didn't have horns on their helmets. That was introduced in Wagner's opera The Ring of the Nibelung.
The header picture is of the Viking castle in Trelleborg, Sweden. It's also called Trelleborgen.

Putin is trapped in the eternal grip of the sunk-cost fallacy. It's better to double down since we're so close to achieving a breakthrough on the battlefield.

Unfortunately, no one will be there to reprogram people's mindsets. The only thing the neighbouring countries can do is arm themselves to the teeth before the next Tsar wannabe comes to power. But I'm afraid we'll repeat the mistakes of the 90s, 00s and 10s when Western politicians thought the threat was over with the collapse of the Soviet Union, so they cut military spending.

I'm sure the espionage by Haakon Chevalier, George C. Eltenton, Morris Cohen, Klaus Fuchs, Harry Gold, David Greenglass, Theodore Hall, George Koval, Irving Lerner, Alan Nunn May, Julius Rosenberg, Ethel Rosenberg, Saville Sax, Oscar Seborer, Morton Sobell, Melita Norwood and Arthur Adams had nothing to do with it.

At least they won't have to live with the shame once the war is over.

I'm watching the rest of the Jay in Kiev video right now. I'm watching the segment with the publishing lady. Wow... The Russians are being screwed over by their own government in so many ways. Don't want to work in fulfillment centres? No problem. We have North Korean women for that. They work for USD 13.88 per day. And their days are 12 hours.

Erich: Well, nothing, obviously… if there's one thing we've learned in the last thousand miles of retreat, it's that Russian agriculture is in dire need of mechanisation!
Hans: Tell me about it!
Erich: But you've gotta say, it's better than a skull! I mean, I really can't think of anything worse, as a symbol, than a skull!
Hans: (thinks) A rat's…. anus?

Erich: (exasperated) Yeah. And if we were fighting an army marching under the banner of a rat's anus, I'd probably be a lot less worried, Hans!
(Hans puts a cigarette in his mouth and sets down an ashtray shaped like a skull. As he absorbs this, he and Erich see one of their comrades drinking out of a mug with a skull on the side, and another knitting a scarf with a skull pattern)
Hans: Okay… So…
(Hans and Erich runs away)

Very true. But the US has had and still has the biggest influence in NATO. It comes with the size of its military.
I'm not sure how many countries would have joined the Coalition of the Willing if Europe weren't so dependent on the US. I hope this changes. The signs are there, but Europe will also have to allocate the money to build a stronger military.

It's good to see that the Russians are once again willing to become casualties of the war. It's their ticket out of the SMO. Rybar was annoyed that the Ukrainians had worked out how to fight the hordes of Russian mercenaries they're facing.

It was also popular in Swedish schools (which is quite natural since Luxor was a Swedish company). The first ABC-80 I programmed was located in a high school, but I was only in third grade. It was in the room next to the chess club that I was a member of at the time. It was a long time ago, but I still remember being mesmerized and curious about computers from the moment I first saw this ABC-80.

Yes, there's no need for another office suite. LibreOffice is an excellent suite of applications, and it's free to use. Donations are always welcome, but not required.

Yes, the MZ-711 was part of the MZ-7xx family. I really enjoyed programming on the MZ-7xx. But the Commodore C64/128 was my favourite computer from that era. I still have my 128D, and programming in assembly language on those machines was awesome.
I wish I had brought my MZ-731 with me when I moved to Canada, but I gave it to a fellow computer enthusiast to reduce the weight of the pallet I was shipping. What’s done is done.

Meanwhile over at Palantir…
Fred: Have you looked at our mice recently?
Bob: (stops typing) Our mice?
Fred: The badges on our mice. Have you looked at them?
Bob: What?… No… A bit.
Fred: They've got skulls on them.
Bob: Hm?
Fred: Have you noticed our mice have actually got little pictures of skulls on them?
Bob: Er… I don't, erm…
Fred: Bob… are we the baddies?

The SOFT team must be the ones behind the new Russian app, GasComrade™, which serves the same purpose as GasBuddy (https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/ontario/ottawa) but just for Russia.

I couldn't fit the full alt description of the video, so here is the rest of the video transcript:
Hans: Oh, you haven't been listening to Allied propaganda? Of course, they're gonna say we're the bad guys!
Erich: But they didn't get to design our uniforms! And their symbols are all, y'know, quite nice! Stars, stripes, lions, sickles…
Hans: What's so good about a sickle?
