#Spycops survivors fear a new Home Office ‘consultation’ is an attempt to shut down the Undercover Policing Inquiry, just before it reaches 'our' time.

The Campaign Opposing Police Surveillance is calling on supporters not to fill in the consultation until they have a chance to respond.

The Inquiry, set up 11 years ago today, has covered the Met-police's Special Demonstration Squad from 1968-2008.

The next (4th) 'tranche' of the inquiry should cover the National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NPOIU) set up in 1999 to track green activists and public demonstrations. It was uncovered by the exposure by activists of Mark Kennedy. It's activities continue under different Specialist Operations groups.

It is the disclosure and closure relating to that unit that may be denied to those affected.

The Home Office must not hamper the search for truth and justice. Allow the inquiry to do the job it was called on to do, to hold police and public officials to account

Former Met Police Commissioner Lord Condon opens his evidence at the #Spycops Inquiry by making a personal apology, “to every single person who has been damaged”, over the decades, by the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) over the 4 decades of the unit’s existence.

Says he endorses the official Met Police apology made on behalf of current Commissioner Mark Rowley.

He goes on to add that he is now aware of the “appalling behaviour” of some individual officers, but wants to make the point that “the greater fault lies with the Met Police as a whole”.

Paul Condon says that the #spycops were told daily to lie, cheat and deceive as a way of life. The Met should have realised that this work could be corrupting and even someone with a strong moral compass would give in to base instincts.

Legal fees fundraiser to support a lead claimant from the Lambeth Bridge mass arrest in 2020.

The arrest took place on 3rd September 2020 on Lambeth Bridge, London, during a ‘Critical Mass’ bike ride. It was at the time of the September 2020 Extinction Rebellion ‘Autumn Rebellion’.

124 people were arrested, bikes were seized, property went missing and many were imprisoned to be released with no charge. Of those 124, 100 are seeking justice.

A trial date is now fixed, the Lead Claimant trial will commence on 11 October 2027 for 9 weeks. It will take place at the High Court of Justice in London.

The outcome will crucially not only determine the success and/or settlement value of the remaining group but will hopefully make the London Metropolitan Police think twice about carrying out such action again.

!! Please share! Very urgent homes needed for these poor pigs living in horrendous conditions. The pigs only have until Friday before they will be destroyed. They have been seized by environmental health as some irresponsible person had not castrated his pet pigs. We are aligning with Retreat Rescue in Kent to save these innocent lives.

At last! Nationally coordinated recycling polices are being rolled out. Here's some highlights (from Nottingham):

*tetrapacks*. Yeah! They are still an awkward mix of foil, plastic and card. We have saved 1000 tetrapaks, and the unnecessary transport of a tonne of water, by switching to Overherd oat milk powder

Loose *foil* - gather enough for tennis ball sized wad.

*plastic bags and wrap*. This is a huge advance for home recycling! Many types are covered, with some exceptions. I do however I am sceptical about how and where it will be processed so, like us at Veggies Catering Campaign , you should avoid the use of plastic bags and wrap

Veggies and #SumacCentre have been obsessive about recycling since our beginnings at the #RainbowCentre on Mansfield Road which, together with Nottm FoE from 1985, was part funded by the collection of cans and newspaper, long before household recycling became widespread.

It's the summer solstice this weekend, an event which was so pivotal in the years the film covers, including the free festivals of the 1970s at Stonehenge, the terrible events at the Beanfield in 1985 and the subsequent Glastonbury and free party years and remains so to this day with thousands gathering at Stonehenge, Glastonbury Tor and all around the world this weekend.

To look again at the common urge to gather in a field, to watch the sun rise on the longest day and to celebrate with others is, in some ways the heart and soul of the film. Today's hearing looked in particular at the activities of the Forward Intelligence Teams (FIT) - the close contact police camera teams that followed her from protests to press conferences (she's press officer for Campaign Against the Arms Trade) to hospital (to check out harm received on wrongful arrests, eg at DSEi Arms Fair Protests.

World's longest coastal path opens in England to the public.

The new path is 2,689 miles long

The path has been designed with the heavier rains and rising seas that climate change is expected to bring in mind.

For the first time in English law there is provision for the route to be moved inland – "rolled back", Natural England calls it - if the coastline erodes or shifts.

This allows the trail to adapt to the changing shoreline and aims to ensure that the coastal walk remains continuous and practical for generations to come.

Ratcliffe Power Station ‘Climate Swoop’

On Saturday 17th October 2009, around one thousand climate activists attempted to shut down Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal power station in Nottinghamshire, taking direct action with repeated breaches of the security fencing.

The action came only weeks before the UN COP15 Climate Conference in Copenhagen, and followed the arrest of 114 activists in Nottingham for allegedly planning to infiltrate the power station in April.

The 'Ratcliffe 114 case later collapsed when it was revealed that the uncovered #spycops undercover police officer, Mark Kennedy, had spied on legally privileged information and hios police handlers had withheld evidence from the trial.

Particularly good access into the vegan field kitchen group, Veggies, that often provides catering facilities inside the eco camps that spring up around summit venues."

It is very clear that today's witness, "Monica" is being incredibly brave in sharing personal private information with the #spycops inquiry. None of this is being broadcast for good reason.

One cannot fail to be impressed not only in Helen Steel's skill as a #spycops witness but her resilience and (despite it all) her strength and humour.

However it turn dark as the inquiry hears more about secret state police manipulation of women, leading Helen to consider going on the run with John Dines out of concern. She is very emotional and struggles to speak.
