I am a multi-disabled author.

Gail Brown writes paired science fiction internal journey stories and novels full of hopes and dreams.

Abby Brown writes paired internal coming home journey stories and novels.

#DeafBlind, and feeling fine, most of the time.

#EDS, #MCAS, #CFS, #Fibro, and more damage my joints, and cause pain spikes that drain my brain and memory.

A #PowerChair preserves my joints, so I can function a little more.

Friends, I really like where i live. I fit in well mentally and physically) with those 2 decades older than me.

However, lately, one has become seriously depressed, and several we have been close to either have, or are slipping into different types of dementia.

Some days, I just need a little time with those who can understand my physical and mental issues, and aren't already slipping into dementia.

I need that friend I try to be for them.

That is why I come here. Even if I mostly read and lick like.

Some days, I need a friend to bounce writing ideas off of.

Some days, I just need someone to remind me there is life out there. Somewhere. Beyond the walls of our community.

A week ago, we went out, and I saw a walking trail. I felt the urge to go test it. For a split second. Knowing I wouldn't make it ten feet (admittedly, it was someone's driveway that looked like a dirt trail in the woods). I've mostly forgotten what it was like to walk miles a day.

Thanks for being here!

@vlrny@disabled.social Which is one reason I am in a retirement community. I fit in well with the disabled 80 plus year olds. Even though I am only mid 50's. The only problem is when they start on their private religion. I miss being more able bodied. It seems a former lifetime when I could do home repairs, walk miles a a day, cook meals, eat, and still have energy to read. Now, reading is about all I have energy for. Even with a power chair.

I miss being warm.

My neck and shoulders ache from the cold.

We should have temps in the mid 70's by this time of year. Haven't had that more than once or twice in the last several years.

Have you ever been warm?

@hollie At one point, we had 5,000 paper books. Now, well.... I cab still read print titles. Not print sizes so much. I now have a 5,000 epub library. I do miss some of the ones I had in paperback, and libraries simply don't have. At least with an epub reader, I can make the font a readable size and type!

@britt@mstdn.games With my 10 degrees of vision, I feel I can respond to a few things. I enjoy the pictures I see when you post new ones. The two accessibility issues that might need to be in the descriptions include color vision needed (to match colors), or if it would require good dexterity for the moveable parts. Of course, one reason I have a few fidget items is to increase my dexterity. Maybe ask them what specificly they need or want to know, and on which item, or point them back to the descriptions.

@PetraPhoenix@beige.party When we had a house, there were no doors to the kitchen. Here, the kitchen is basically part of the living room. Basically, it is three rooms. Stay safe.

@WeirdWriter@caneandable.social The audio description one is complicated. I believe it should be easy to turn on and off. The average no tech person should be able to turn it on and off in browser settings, or tv settings. For the record - I am deafblind. I lost a lot of my hearing before dropping to ten degrees of vision. I struggle to comprehend speech. So, being around people who are talking takes a day's energy, and few days to recover from. Watching tv, there times I wish I could turn on description - in the captions. Even with ten degrees of vision, I still comprehend reading better than spoken. I tried audio description once, turned it on by accident. After five minutes of a show I knew, I had to turn off the tv, and stay in bed two days to get rid of the headache form all of the conflicting and over riding speech. It is valuable for people. I just wish there was a way to pause the show speech while listening to (or reading) the audio description that more sighted people may, or may not, get from watching the show. Definitely one of those tools that should be easy to adjust for those who need it.

@fatbot@mas.to At around 30, I was 100 pounds (healthy weight was a minimum of 125). If I worked more than a month, I'd drop to 90 pounds. Doctors told me to lose weight. Celiac doesn't respond to losing weight. Nor does EDS, MCAS, or a dozen others. Now, I am between 150 - 160. And still told to lose weight. This weight is better for me with EDS. And if I get sick, and can't eat, I won't end up nearly as sick as I did at 90 to 100 pounds. If I had known about Celiac as a teen, I might never have dropped from 125 to 100 pounds. I might be healthier today.
