@ainmosni @Daojoan Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I’ve rediscovered RSS, ditched multiple apps for basic services, and even returned to paper and pencil for grocery shopping.

Accepted a position in a local college’s dining program. It’s gonna be good to feed people again. Work with my hands. Pass on a craft. Probably be a fucking mentor again. (Just got a text from a gal I trained over a decade ago!)

@volpeon@icy.wyvern.rip Ok, they’re a little weird, but a friend brought one filled with an orange pastry cream and topped gamache and chocolate crumb. It was delicious. (And as a pro-baker, it was imaginative and interesting.)

Finally, the post @bomkatt said she’d be interested in: Sweet Potato & Chorizo Hand Pies

The project is coming out of a a few months where I explored British style savory pies. They weren’t really my thing. This though was great—a merging of their pastry dough with more American flavors.

With ChatGPT 5 failing to count the number of b’s in “blueberry,”here’s my favorite AI prompt to ask. The information is very easy to find. Requires cross-referencing two small datasets then looking up stats from a well-known source. Plus, it’s a real question.

Model’s almost always fail. I suspect because it’s “niche” in the sense that there aren’t a thousand message boards and subreddits discussing the topic. They commonly list the wrong localities, and when they do get the correct ones, the unemployment rates are often off by a significant factor.

ChatGPT 5 said it couldn’t search for the data, and asked me to supply it so it could to the mental work. Like…. no, that isn’t the point.

Had a moment of relief and elation on my run. I pulled out my phone and saw a text from an old boss/mentor. He had sent a pic of the letter I wrote twenty years ago thanking him for accepting me as a intern at his bakery.

It reminded me off all the years pushing myself and my staff to do better—not in a autocratic way, but in a “hey, we did good yesterday, let’s see if we can do even better today.” Aiming a little higher than you think is possible, because even failing to meet that is doing well.

So around mile 3, I decided that if I was under a certain pace at a fork in the road, I’d go left, adding some extra miles and hills.

It’s been a few years of being complacent. The world seems to have decided being mid is just fine. Hopefully with a little careful stoking, the embers that used to be fire in my belly can reignite.

I hit the fork, was under the pace. Went left, tacked on a little extra, a little more than I’d be comfortable doing, a little more than planned, pushing the bar a fraction further.

Wearable AI reviewer is starting to wonder what good this new gadget actually is good for.

@ITOmarHernandez By any metric, I suck at running. But I still get out there and do it because I like the experiences. 😂
