Beloved kitty Spike passed over the Rainbow Bridge about an hour ago. She was 21 and it was time. We had a pretty good run together. I knew this day was coming for the last 6 months or so, so I was better able to handle it.

So a woman popped out asking what I was looking for and I told her. Well she happened to be the local mail person and she said it was the house across the street. And it was. Yay. Problem solved.
Except it was the wrong house number. 220 does not equal 221 so why would you leave the groceries there? And doesn't the addition of an apt. number suggest that maybe.... just MAYBE you might wanna drive across the street to the apartment complex visible from the road?

@ianrosewrites@scicomm.xyz Yes. I was surprised to learn that they had fire suppression systems in those drop boxes but it makes sense considering it's the vote.
Almost all of the audio wiring is done in this now. Finished it today. What's left is the AC wiring, which I really can't do until I get the front panel. Reason being one of the items mounted to the front panel attaches from the outside.

@sikkdays@ourempty.pub I do have pretty steady hands for soldering but occasionally I'm shaky. On those days I can't solder the small stuff.
I'm not sure tape would be enough to protect the cool aluminum enclosure.
A milling machine would be ideal. Or even a drill press where I could lock a grinding wheel at a certain height and gently push the pot into the wheel to grind away the nubby.
OK, I'm just gonna say it. Angine de Poitrine is cool and interesting, but the drummer is BY FAR the weak link.

@rev_mook@lsngl.us For whatever reason the guy designed this to use a 48 volt switch mode supply. They're small for one reason, I guess....
But the PCB also has a DC to DC converter making 220 volts, and 6 volts for the filaments.
Which transformer layout do you prefer in my previous post? The one with the straight transformers, or the one with the angled transformers?

@thehatfox and as a space geek who's oldest memories are some of the Apollo launches I'm so mad at myself for not realizing it was happening today.
I did a little more wiring on this tube mic preamp. It's almost completely wired. The panel you see is only a stand-in to make sure all of the switches and knobbies would fit without issue. The panel is the right size with the right holes that a friend with a waterjet at his metalshop cut for me for testing purposes. The real front panel will be thicker (either 3mm or 1/8th inch) and decorated with color and lettering and such.

I'm working on v2 of the Pete Millet mic preamp. I've had the parts to mostly finish it for about a year, but kept it on the shelf for no good reasons. But I've needed to do something to take my mind off the stress of these last few months so I took it off the shelf.
Both main PCBs (the yellow ones) are "permanently" mounted, and I mounted the female input XLR's. I also wired them to the inputs of both boards. It's coming along slowly but surely.
Friends, my roommate bailed on me with almost no notice, and I am trying to raise funds to to be able to stay where I am. Rent here is crazy and I can't afford it alone, so I am trying to raise 3 months of their share until I can find and vet a new roommate.
I had my first roommate interview a few nights ago. They texted me and told me they were on their way and never showed up.

I'm watching an (old) episode of Space: 1999, and Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) is playing an alien in this one. I believe this episode is from 1976. I wonder if he had filmed any scenes yet in that film that would take the world by storm the next year.

I had to do an instacart for some groceries, and I live in an apt. complex, HENCE THE APARTMENT NUMBER ON THE FRICKIN ADDRESS.
I get a notice that my groceries were delivered (I was in the kitchen. I saw nothing) and the picture of the door wasn't mine.
So I reported it and started looking around the complex, to see if anyone had a door like that.

The only thing keeping me from christening this one is the cost of the custom front panel.

Rewatching these NYPD Blue eps has triggered other memories from that time. When season 1 was happening I had gotten a small cash influx from my grandparents, so I ordered a ZEOS Pentium 90 (complete with FDIV bug, and don't ask me how much it cost!).
The rep from ZEOS was really cool and it turned out she was a huge NYPD Blue fan also, so we would talk about the show.
I always wondered what happened to that woman. We had such fun talking on the phone.
This is one of the precision potentiometers I'll be using in my tube preamp build. They are stepped (like 24 or 27 steps) made with precision film resistors on a small circuit board in there with the stepping mechanism.
I want to get rid of the little nubby sticking up on each pot. I don't have the tools to do this anymore so I'm looking for any suggestions that you might have. I want to get rid of the nubby without damaging the rest of these beautiful things.

Yesterday, after work, at about 6 PM my doorbell rang 3 times VERY fast. I was unwinding after work and relaxing upstairs, so it took me a moment to get my mojo going to answer the door. When I opened the door there was no one there, but there was a cardboard box with 5 quarters in it, at my feet. And no this is not an April Fools post because this happened yesterday.
So what's up with that? Who left me $1.25 and why?
