@blogdiva The Dominionist “Christian” Zionists have trying to get us to make aliyah for decades. Particularly those like John Hagee, founder of Christian United For Israel, who has said he wants a nuclear war in the Middle East to trigger the rapture.
I have no desire to go there, especially as long as Netanyahu and his corrupt, psychotic regime is in power.
I can’t be a traitor to a nation I’m not a citizen of. Blind support of Israel is one reason I’m no longer a member of my synagogue.
@cstross@wandering.shop A few months too soon to declare that. We’ll have a better idea after the mid-term elections. Fingers and toes crossed. Donnie has time to piss of even more folk.
Also, how’re things going over there?

When faced with something like this I get the dremel out and cut a notch in it, then get it out with a flat screwdriver.
Worked on my former MINI (a BMW), with torx screws on the tail light cover, didn't have bit for them at the time.

I read it as commentary on Bush Jr., and the creeping authoritarianism coming out of the “War on Terror”.
President Cheney, and the ‘If this goes on’ thing.
@cstross@wandering.shop@bsdphk@fosstodon.org Pretty sure I once said on your blog, during the 1st term, that Donnie’s a wannabe mob boss. You couldn’t be in the NY building business without dealing with the mafia. I think it’s part of why he prefers being called Don, or as he used to go by The Donald.

250 years is older than most nations, if you go by the age of their current governments. Russia today isn’t the same country is was 40 years ago, never mind 250. Or any country on the losing side of the world wars, or those that have had revolutions in the past century. etc.
@cstross That first paragraph mirrors something I’ve been thinking for a while. Israel may be a nation of Jews, but it is not a Jewish one—in the sense of following Jewish ethics.
@attoparsec Since he claims to be an Iain Banks fan, though cleary missed the point, I’d say he’s an agent for Special Circumstances. The Culture has already decided we’re not ready for them.
@indivisibleteam@mastodon.social Jebus Trump sucking the soul out of a sleeping man, while surrounded by people unaware that they are about to be slaughtered by ghostly paratroopers.
In the background the Statue of Liberty has been miraculously transported next to the Lincoln Memorial, both of which appear to be sinking into the rising Potomac River. Above them Chinese made fireworks explode.
@kingsleybugarin@attoparsec I’d say it’s debatable that SC are the good guys, good intentions perhaps.
You’re too polite about Musk, who may be the sort of (semi)Useful Idiot SC might use to keep a civilization getting ahead of itself and causing trouble.
Maybe arrange for someone with big ideas to come along and screw things up enough to keep us planet bound for a few generations, and triggering a revolution among the masses who sweep away the oligarchs.
Wishful thinking.

I stopped watching sitcoms years ago after realizing that they only have a handful of plots, with slight variations. Most of which center on one character misunderstanding another, usually when overhearing a conversation with a third.
@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop I think I actually remember reading this at the time. The last panel in particular.
I’ve despised Donnie since around then, when he used to often be on Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous, he was always such an obvious phony.
Bill the Trump was smarter than the real thing.
@rbreich@masto.ai Well…
Partly from the Heritage Foundation helping get Reagan elected, using a precursor to Project 2025.
Then John McCain picking idiot Sarah Palin as his running mate, making it okay for other idiots to run for office. And all the dark money that helped them.
And so on…

Hey Jarhead! That WAC can take care of herself.
Pan’s just like; Hey buddy, I just wanna fight Nazis! Sign me up.
He looks like Jeffrey Tambor.
@cstross@wandering.shop Assuming their TV is like most, they must be half deaf to keep the volume that high. I have mine around 10.
Reading is certainly the better choice.

6) Divorce a billionaire.
Even if you try giving it away, the interest increases faster than you can get rid of it. At least that seems to be the case for the former Mrs. Bezos.
@rbreich
I don’t want to be accused of shaming, but Sanchez almost makes Noem look natural.
I’m assuming most of us know the appropriate William Gibson quote.
@rbreich@masto.ai Rubio’s sitting there thinking “Grandpa’s sundowning again”. Bobby Jr. is like “Whut?”
And little Petey’s laughing his ass off because he knows that he’s the only one in Grampie’s will.
