City of Kitchener has a cool (Ha! See what we did there? 🤣) winter event happening on Feb. 13:

“The celebration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Kitchener Cenotaph (corner of Frederick and Duke Streets). The a group bike ride will follow the newly opened separated bike lanes in the Downtown Cycling Grid, including the recent transformation of East Avenue. Everyone who participates will receive a free coffee or hot chocolate, and there will be special prizes for first-time winter cyclists. winter cyclists. Kitchener now maintains more than 300 km of separated bike lanes and trails, designed to keep people active year-round. With prizes, warm drinks and a supportive community ride, it’s the perfect moment to try winter biking and see how enjoyable it can be.”

😀🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼🚴🏿‍♂️☃️❤️

Waterloo Region relies on this federal funding to expand its cycling network. Tell your MP that this is important to you!

From Vélo Canada Bikes:
"Bike infrastructure is a low cost, high impact solution for housing & health. But $500M in federal funding is now at risk. If approvals aren't issued now, we lose the 2026 construction season. TAKE ACTION: Email your MP by March 13!”

Here's a great video from Tom Babin ( @shifter ) and Dave Shellnut (The Biking Lawyer) on e-bikes. Plenty to think about!

Cycling in winter in Waterloo Region!

“As with any winter sport, dressing for winter cycling is specific to each individual. Li said she wears a ski jacket and pants and brings a change of clothes for her workplace. Keeping dry is not only restricted to her clothing. Commuting to work means bringing her laptop, which she transports in a water-proof backpack.”

When a community organizes and politicians actually listen, the outcome can be positive, as in this case. Kudos to Guelph city councillors for reconsidering a bad budget decision. “Coun. Erin Caton thanked Guthrie and ‘the snow.’ 'I think that without seeing it in action, I don't think we would have been able to kind of visualize the actual impact, Caton said. 'There's a lot of things that I didn't think of until I saw it.’ Coun. Phil Allt said this would be like Christmas coming early for som
