Following some naughty (not) remarks from here, I went to another gallery of the #ThinkCentre rabbit hole. Quick and dirty look at #FreeBSD, #NetBSD and #OpenBSD power usage on the AMD powered M715q. #RunBSD https://www.tumfatig.net/2026/m715q-power-usage-and-the-bsdes/

M715q power usage and the BSDes

Following previous post where using M720q as a desktop machine was considered not that good, someone on the Fediverse pointed me to the AMD versions of ThinkCentre. Having noticed that ATI/AMD/Radeon GPU do seem to work pretty well on OpenBSD, I got a refurbished ThinkCentre M715q and had a look at it.

I think this is the sign I’m trying to escape from the current shit World… No-sane-body really needs that many #ThinkCentre, even to #RunBSD…

@alcea@infosec.exchange My problem is more with #AntiRepairDesign and #garbage quality. You'd have a different experience with like a #ThinkCentre / #ThinkStationTiny instead if a cheap shitbox. #Laptops without toolfree, hot-swapable batteries are a #WontBuy…
