Highly motivated to find folks with Whistle InterJets -- late-90s 486 SOHO Internet appliances (IBM bought and sunsetted it, and sold off the whistle.com domain). People with long ISP memories may remember it because it was resold by ISPs in US /Europe / Asia (especially Japan). I'm building a comprehensive info resource (and tailoring modern NetBSD to run on it). We need to find folks with hardware, software we're missing, ephemera, or memories. The software (on 30yo IDE drives) is especially endangered. Rough site, in all its 1995-grade (but secretly HTML5) "glory": https://www.alaska.net/~royce/interjet/ (That tilde account is also endangered -- I've also registered a domain and will be moving to it when ready) Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/vintagecomputing/comments/1x0kbcs/seeking_folks_with_whistle_interjets/ DM me or hit the email on the page. Please boost, especially if you have overlap in the retrocomputing or vintage ISP space! #RetroComputing #NetBSD

IBM’s Frank King appeared on an October 1986 “Computer Chronicles” to demonstrate the IBM RT PC, a $10,000 RISC-based desktop computer with 4 MB of RAM, a 70 MB hard drive, and IBM’s proprietary UNIX, AIX, featuring the X Window System. https://www.computerchronicles.blog/computer-chronicles-revisited-065-ibm-rt-pc/ #retrocomputing #risc

hi, i'm ascetic ツ i run a small (but growing) self-hosted stack and make random things, mostly around retro computing, privacy, classic games and IRC. lately: pagerom, which turns any website or feed into an NES, SNES, or game boy cart you can actually playmodembin, which is pastebin but with real modem audio decoding to text and live modem chatan IRC server that bridges every possible protocol (even email, phone, obsidian) into one hubthis instance (which is just me) running snac on a tiny vpsbeen on the internet way too long. say hi, especially if you're still on IRC in 2026. the rest lives at https://system64.computer #Introduction #SelfHosting #RetroComputing #IRC #Privacy

@tiefling@bardicperspiration.club @DaimonRainbow@bardicperspiration.club I think that is why sites like Neocities exist (where op is hosting their blog, and this article). To find a more humanist, fun Internet that has not been ruined by capitalism, follow the hashtags #smolweb #smallweb #retrocomputing
