Will any dvd / blue-ray reader do? (naive question)
I have a few dvds and blue rays that I want to rip. They are all movies / tv series, not games. Will any dvd / blue-ray reader manage to rip them or does it have to have some fancy capability to do the rip?

Where to fill my e-reader
So I’m off on holiday soon, and my x4 e-reader is conspicuously devoid of unread sci-fi. Can anyone point me at a good source? I’ve checked the easily findable places

I’m playing an extremely overpriced game from a company you should never give money to and need to update it for compatibility with mods.
Anyone know of a good place to search? I’ve combed through the usual general purpose torrent sites and the fmhy links with no luck
Can I Follow Adobe Tutorials for ArtCraft?
Can I follow tutorials or guides made for Adobe products and apply them directly to the recent rebuilds of Adobe products “ArtCraft”, or are there important differences between the two that tutorials for Adobe aren’t useful?
the best ad-free youtube client on appletv?
im looking to get an appletv, cause its basically the most privacy-friendly streaming box you can get (unless you make a linux box of course), but im not sure if you can use something like smarttube on an appletv. I can barely watch youtube with the ads its insane. I found three apps on github but idk if they’re any good so here they are: SmartTube-IOS(github.com/say4n/SmartTube-iOS), yattee(github.com/yattee/yattee) and Unwatched(github.com/fer0n/Unwatched)
thank guy
(Direct download) What is your preferred Place to get DRM-Free versions of games?
Just wondering as im not sure what sites are still around or what threads to read about that are still up to date? I would like to know your preferred sites for drm-free version of games or suggestions, that is a direct download and not a torrent. you may ask why, i dont want to buy a vpn and i feel direct downloads are simpler for me to grasp.
I know there used to be a specific site for gog games but its no longer around.

How are shadow libraries and private torrent trackers able to support fiat payments?
Just curious seeing as Anna’s Archive supports Revolut and AliPay for example, and some private torrent trackers also support ways of making credit card payments. And how is this safe in any way for either of the receiver and sender?
Where to go for PS5 dumps?
I found this one place, but it had me downloading 12 individual files in a rar format for one game. It was straight ass at how slow it was, I didn’t see anything on the pirate bay or 1337x, where are people finding game dumps?
What is your Music piracy system.
More than just ‘what app are you using’, but I do want that as well.
I want a good mindset for downloading music that has what I want and at least some of what I’ll probably like.
Currently, partially as a limitation of the app, I have every song in every album that contains something I like. This works well ish for discovery, but I know less than a quarter of my library, no matter how much time I spend listening to new music. This was with Lidar + tubifary (Tidal and Slskd only).
Currently I’m trying Downtify configured with slskd and yt as a backup, but it seems very slow to download and the app itself is very laggy.
Video file sizes: what do I need to know?
I’m getting back into digital collecting after pretty much exhausting the local thriftstores of any movies I wanted to watch / own.
I was thinking of burning everything to DVD but then I came to my senses and just installed Jellyfin.
Question:
What video file sizes do you guys download and why?
And what is the correlation between video size and quality? I see some wild variations in file sizes even for the same res.
Who are y’alls downloading 20+GB movies? Are you storing all that or are you downmixing? Are you stealing your harddrives out of the recycle bin?
Any shortcuts for getting rich blacks for space scenes? Do I just need to suck it up eat the bytes? (I’m thinking of going this route for BSG and can’t remember if they go for video grain in space or true film black).
What is the obvious thing I clearly don’t understand by asking these questions?
So for me, it seems for file size, about 700MB / 90 minutes is about as low as I can go, and arguably it’s too low because I’m sometimes distracted by the low quality.
I’m a little confused by what’s going on because I’ll often watch a DVD that’s being upscaled by the player and have no complaints, and I think that’s base 480 or lower, but a labelled 720p can have some distractingly low res.
For my high end, 2GB at 1080p is about as high as I care to go unless it’s some crazy high quality cinematographic shit like Lawrence or Dune.

What do you think is the future of file sharing?
There are now many technologies for P2P file sharing:
Usenet
Bittorrent
IPFS
Tenfinger
more?
And also several technologies for anonymization:
VPNs
Tor
I2P
AFAICT the most popular option is still Bittorrent with various public and private trackers and indexers. Private trackers seem to be the most effective option that communities have converged on.
I’ve tried all of the above solutions over the years and while I think something like I2P sounds great in theory, it doesn’t seem to actually work well in practice. Because it’s not terribly popular, it’s hard to know what to expect.
We clearly still haven’t found the ideal model that can provide both good performance, discovery, access, availability, and anonymity. But do you think we will actually make progress on these problems? We seem to have stabilized on a local maximum.
